*~…BrOkEn…~*

So it’s been a few years since that day, the day my parents died, their death was the day I finally opened my naïve eyes to how the world really functioned. I saw what I never wanted to see, and I learned to deal with it. But what I also learned was that you can’t undo the past, no matter how much you wish for it to happen. In life Kikwang learned, that to survive you had to play a dangerous game, the game of ‘Kill or Be Killed’ and even if you never wanted to play, you’d somehow be roped into joining the game.

Kikwang laughed bitterly, the laugh sounding so hollow and pained, that Kikwang wondered if he was human any more. He smiled forlornly as tears began gracing his cheeks, as he remembered his parents’ bright smiles that had forever left his world. All because of a man, one man who ruined Kikwang’s perfect world, because Kikwang’s father went against him. Kikwang held back a sob and remembered the days without his parents. They were awful, almost as if had had entered a one-way ticket to hell, and with no way of returning, it had swallowed him whole.

________________________________________________________________________________________

He didn’t know where to go, he was only 10 years old, and he knew that they burned down his house to remove all trace of his family’s existence, and any money he might have inherited was given away to his relatives, because everyone thought he died, no one knew he was alive, and Kikwang decided it would be for the best, since no one else was going to be involved. Kikwang hadn’t eaten in 2 days before he met Doojoon again. Doojoon was Kikwang’s close friend, and was older than Kikwang by 3 years.

Can’t say it was hard to believe, that Doojoon was shocked to see Kikwang in torn clothes that held the stains of oil, dirt, and was that blood? Doojoon could not believe it, and as he gazed at the younger boy who was shivering in his clothes and could barely stand, cradling himself as if he would fall in any second, and the beautiful dark eyes, that had dark bags underneath them, pale dry lips, and skin as white as snow, but then Kikwang collapsed with a soft groan that was almost unheard; Doojoon was glad he did, or Kikwang would’ve fallen flat on the cold cement pavement. Doojoon was only glad he found the younger, before he collapsed somewhere else, but what worried Doojoon was if Kikwang was supposed to be dead, why was he here, in Doojoon’s arms unconscious.

Doojoon had many questions to ask Kikwang but decided to ask them later, when the younger boy was probably conscious. Doojoon then carried Kikwang on his back all the way back to his house. His mother was still at work and his father died two years ago of liver failure, Doojoon never got over that, but Kikwang being supportive and naïve, took Doojoon’s mind off many things back then, those were the days. He had dressed up the younger boy in some of his old clothes and prepared some soup, since he guessed Kikwang hadn’t eaten for a long while and needed to start with something simple, light and warm.

He woke Kikwang up, but as he noticed Kikwang made no noise, not even a yawn. Doojoon was worried but when he asked Kikwang could only shake his head and point to his mouth. It took Doojoon 30seconds to understand the fact the Kikwang was somehow mute. He raised his eyebrows in curiosity but said nothing as he fed the boy slowly. But Kikwang’s haunted eyes scared Doojoon, more than the fact that the younger boy could somehow no longer speak.

After finishing the soup, Doojoon then brought Kikwang some paper and a pen so Kikwang could tell him what happened to him in those 2 days he was gone. Kikwang at first refused and kept shaking his head, but as the tears began falling, Doojoon knew that what happened to Kikwang wasn’t an accident, and that Kikwang was hiding something, something that put his life in danger. Doojoon frowned before telling Kikwang softly “Kikwang you may no longer be able to talk but Ki, I’m your best friend, I’ve been there for you, just like you’ve been there for me. Now, tell me what happened?”

Kikwang bit his lips, looking like an adorable puppy forced to abandon its mother and Doojoon suddenly felt like he wanted to beat himself up for making the younger boy look like that. But both of them knew that Kikwang had to tell Doojoon, so Doojoon could help. In the end Kikwang wrote everything down, the details of everything, how it all began because Kikwang\s father didn’t want to help how he escaped them, how his parents pushed him out of the car and down the hill, as he listened to them shoot his parents and kill them, how they burned the car, and how Kikwang knew that because of the shock that he couldn’t speak, at least not anymore. Kikwang also mentioned that even as he fell down the hill, and as his mother pushed him, he still climbed and hid behind a tree as he witnessed his parents death up-close; Kikwang also mentioned how he hated himself more than anything, for not being able to die with his parents or at least doing anything. But as Doojoon kept reading he knew that Kikwang had escaped them by entering the forest, and then jumping off a cliff. They thought he died, and that’s how Kikwang escaped.

Doojoon didn’t know what to do, he was so confused and in shock, but then he was angry, angry that someone dared to hurt Kikwang, but he knew that the boy who could no longer speak and lay on his bed right now needed him, and so Doojoon swore he’d help Kikwang, and protect him. He became Kikwang’s only family, since Kikwang was supposed to be dead. When Doojoon’s mother arrived home later on, Doojoon asked her not to be shocked, she nodded, but when she saw a weak-looking Kikwang clinging to Doojoon as he hid from her, she cried. She cried because she thought that Doojoon lost his only friend in the world, he wouldn’t talk to her much for 2 days, and she was glad that Kikwang was alive, but looking at how scared the boy was, she knew even then, that something had gone wrong.

As Doojoon summarized Kikwang’s whole story, his mother hugged the younger boy and placed him on her lap as she soothed him and brushed away his tears. She told Kikwang that they would adopt him, and would take care of Kikwang but to do that, she had to take care of the papers, and according to papers Lee Kikwang was dead. So the next day, they dyed Kikwang’s hair to a mix of blond and red, which gave him soft honey colored hair. She bought him large thick-framed glasses and told him that from this day he’d be growing his hair so they can hide Kikwang and created Daniel. Daniel was a young boy who has amnesia and doesn’t remember his past, and if he did he can’t tell you because he was born mute, lacking the ability to speak.

She had somehow been able to adopt him and give him her surname, Kim; thus Kim Daniel was born and Lee Kikwang was supposedly dead…

*******************************************************************************************

Kikwang remembered how much he loathed pretending to be someone else, how he hated becoming Kim Daniel, adopted brother of Kim Doojoon. He didn’t hate being related to Doojoon but it kept reminding of what he lost and how Lee Kikwang is supposed to be dead. He wanted to keep Lee Kikwang alive, but Daniel couldn’t because already looking like a boy that was supposedly dead didn’t help him blend in much.

Kikwang braced himself as he awaited Doojoon by the Library; he wondered when he could finally take revenge on the person who caused his parents death. He took a deep breath and wished away his tears as he remembered his mother’s lullaby and how she used to love it when he’d sing with her. He remembered how his father would scold him gently for being too soft and delicate before spoiling him after looking at his face for a few seconds murmuring “why do you have to look so cute, I swear your mom’s going to kill me when she finds out how much I spoil you” while grinning.

Kikwang swallowed dome of his saliva while gazing at the sky, he frowned when he suddenly saw something blocking his vision. Before he could react the person began waving his hand in front of him. Kikwang glared not being in the mood to talk to anyone until his gaze fell upon the man in front of him. Kikwang being only 19 and still somewhat hormonal could tell that the man before him was someone very handsome and wanted to suddenly run away.

“Yo, what are you doing here all alone?” the stranger asked as he gazed at Kikwang before telling him with a smirk “You know pretty boys shouldn’t be alone, even during this time of the day, right?” Before Kikwang could somehow try and tell the man without actually speaking that he had Aphonia and couldn’t literally talk back; Hyunseung had appeared from the library with Doojoon.

Kikwang let out a sigh of relief, but not before he noticed the handsome man’s face tense in anger not noticing where Kikwang was looking at as he asked “are you deaf or something” since Hyunseung had already reached him and apparently heard the question before pushing Junhyung away from Kikwang telling him to “back off before I beat you up”.

Kikwang only blinked at how Hyunseung quickly changed emotions while Doojoon wrapped an arm around Kikwang’s shoulders, to keep the younger away from the handsome man. “I was just asking him if he knew that it was dangerous for such a pretty boy like him to be outside and alone even during this time of the day. But he never answered”. Kikwang nervously bit his lips as he saw Hyunseung reply to the stranger “he has Aphonia you jackass, not like he could talk to you if he wanted” before sending Kikwang a reassuring smile with guilty eyes, that Kikwang had to smile gently back, before trying to calm down Doojoon who knocked out any guy who flirted with Kikwang, in less than 2 minutes.

He saw the handsome stranger eyes widen in disbelief, before telling him “sorry” but as soon as the sorry left his lips, he directly told Hyunseung and Doojoon “Well you still shouldn’t leave him alone, especially in public you never know what can happen” seriously his face becoming stoic as warm eyes held a swirl of sadness and anger.

Hyunseung calmed down before telling the stranger stiffly “thanks we’ll keep that in mind, and we won’t leave him alone the next time either” while giving him a curt nod. Doojoon only muttered “Next time I see you harassing K-Daniel, I will beat you up”. Kikwang felt guilty and went to the handsome stranger, after slipping off from Doojoon’s really tight embrace, he mouthed sorry and got out his notebook and wrote “I’m really sorry about my hyungs, and I know you meant well, but they’re over protective for good reasons. I hope I can make it up to you by coffee, sometime this week”.

He saw the barest trace of a smile on the handsome stranger’s lips as he nodded slightly to Kikwang, and Hyunseung and Doojoon. He pocketed the paper that that Kikwang gave him and left to a car that had a driver awaiting him.

It only took a few seconds before Hyunseung dropped his serious face and began panicking “oh that prick, he was so right, I can’t believe Doojoon actually managed to convince me to leave you alone, I told him I should go by myself, but no~, he wouldn’t listen. Kikwang you forgive me right?” as he asked the younger boy who smiled amused at his hyung’s change in emotions, Doojoon glared at Hyunseung before telling him “if I left you alone for even one moment, you’d be sexually harassed, I trust Kikwang to be able to defend himself, since I’ve been helping him practice all these years”.

Hyunseung looked at Kikwang in awe, and asked the younger boy “Is it true Kiki?” and relaxed when Kikwang nodded with a shy smile gracing his face -since he wasn’t proud to admit that he could handle a stalker while Hyunseung who seemed more violent couldn’t, and began screaming like a girl because he really disliked stalkers- but in the mean time, Hyunseung decided to hug Kikwang, and squeeze the younger, so that he was practically choking on lack of air. Doojoon only gazed in surprise as his eyes widened, he quickly moved to pull Kikwang from Hyunseung’s chest and told him “Hey do not kill my adopted brother, or I will let my mom come after you with a chainsaw” but there was humor in his voice, which both Kikwang and Hyunseung noticed.

Kikwang let out a soft giggle, while Hyunseung began laughing loudly as he told Doojoon “Psh, as if, I adore Kiki too much to actually choke him, after all, he’s my baby” and ruffled Kikwang's hair fondly, and placing a soft kiss on the blonde strands. Kikwang flushed slightly before pointing to his watch, indicating that they had to go for class. Hyunseung laughed softly and told Doojoon "Thanks Doojoonie~ Me & Kiki will head out to class, you go to work before your boss gets angry" and pecked the older on the lips. Doojoon smiled, hugged Kikwang and told them "Fine, now leave both of you, your Psychology class starts in about 10 minutes." chuckling at Hyunseung's scandalized look, and Kikwang's amused smirk.
