My alarm was set for 6:30 to head out the door early and head out to pick up Aurélie at her place at 8. I was about 15 minutes late, not too terrible -- and she turned out to be not ready at all; we left at 9. I quiz her for a couple things she might be forgetting; she goes to get water and a warm hat (it was about 2C when we left).
Drive off; get to the hills, wow at the amazing fall colours which are peaking. Get to the trailhead. Ok, get our stuff, Aurélie offers to carry the rope, and... Rope. Oh fuck. I forgot the rope.
So, change of plans, we hike.
In retrospect, it probably was a better plan anyway: We got to see a half-fogged-in lake with the last wisps of fog burning off in the sun; we saw interesting mushrooms; many squirrels, which I don't care that much about, but the French are crazy about squirrels; we saw a flock of wild Thanksgiving turkeys (we didn't eat any of them); and wonderful panoramas of the Laurentians and their mixed forests at fall peak.
