Friday: games at blk's place. Got creamed at Genoa by not figuring out the income-production methods as fast as the others. Then I left before midnight to make sure I had enough sleep before Saturday.

Saturday: Hiking at Allegheny Gorge with Kami. In trying to find a few new places to hike, I discovered that Google Maps is pretty hopeless in rural areas. There are roads that are unspecifiable because they don't list a name, so it's impossible to get directions to there. Even if there is a name, like Tappan Lake Park in Ohio, sometimes you can't search by the name (!) Ogling maps -- they're almost as bad as TV -- made me late, but we still got out at a reasonable time. Notable non-fungus:
  • Kami (I blame her for moving during the long exposure -- not my fault she's fuzzy. Nope.)
  • Looking up the chimney of the iron furnace
  • A wormy thing
Notable fungi: 1 2 3 4 5 6

All shots: here.

Après-hike amusements included one of the more failed dinners Charlie and I have ever collaborated on (all mistakes are understood: too much salt in the greens, not enough water in the rice, bad timing on the lentils). Then Zoe and Becca came over, so the five of us played Set and Mao. Kami took forever to understand the cards that make you repeat play, though she didn't seem to have trouble with much else. I took forever to figure out one of the more trivial rules. Charlie at some point put in a rule that took us about seven or eight hands to understand. Somehow I only managed to win one hand, even after I'd figured out the rules (once I had to pick up a whopping *32* cards at once through no fault of my own).

I was the first to grow too tired of the game to care, and started making card houses instead. Only got up to 4 levels before catastrophic failure; my next card house was going to be all fancy but I only got to build a quarter of the second level before it all went down like a house of cards.
