a closed mind is a terrible thing...
alrighty. So, you guys know those big anti abortion posters from JUSTICE FOR ALL? if not, go here http://www.jfaweb.org/ and click on the "virtual exhibit" tab. OK, first off, most of their photos are PHOTOSHOPPED and then put on ten foot high boards and put out to terrify the uninformed. second, these people come over and ask us our opinions and then begin to shoot them down instead of an intelligent debate like those of our age should be able to have. Like, a friend of mine, who's Lutheran and very religious was standing there with another friend and I and this girl comes over to talk to us. This girl then proceeds to ask my friend Mary some stupid questions and then ends with "well, do you think suicide is ok then too?" and Mary responded with "well, abortion should be the choice of the mother, because she knows in her heart that she cannot have this baby, and if, in your heart, you feel that suicide is the only option for you, then you should be able to take it." sound argument right? and then this girl starts in on "is being gay a choice?" and Mary said no, and then this girl said "well, all gays are born being hated anyway..." needless to say, our jaws dropped and we walked away before harm was inflicted on this girl.
we decided to walk around the display to see if there was anything new on it (there wasn't) and we were about to walk away completely when I saw something about Abortion being equated to Slavery and Genocide. I couldn't let this rest so I asked a guy who was working there about their reasoning behind that statement. He said something along the lines of "well, people only do it 'cause it's legal...like abortion" and I thought for a moment. "well no...people would have abortions even if it were illegal, it would just go back to back alley abortions with coat hangers...that's why I'm pro choice, so girls/women can go to a safe, sterile place to have an abortion if they decide to." really? equating abortion that may well save the life of a woman or spare an innocent child an awful life with someone who doesn't want it? this DOES NOT equate to Genocide OR Slavery...grr.
and here are my thoughts in general about the display. OMFG they're PHOTO SHOPPED. a baby head in a petri dish?? for real? like, one with hair and everything, just made to look like it's the size of a dime. and their "warning" signs. ok...you've got to put them more than 10 feet away from the display. like, right outside the gorram buildings surrounding it would be nice. And who the hell thinks that scare tactics work? especially on a college campus? Like Mark (my friend) said, we're all pretty darn set in our ways by this point in life...we've got a set of opinions, beliefs and what not and they're not gonna change...I mean, there may be a few people who'll come round to someone else's way of thinking, which is good for them 'cause they're discovering values for their life...
I guess my whole point in this is that people shouldn't use falsified documents to try and sway someone's thought process. being in the field that I am, I like my FACTS please...give me FACTS to PROVE that abortion 'causes breast cancer, like your poster says it does. I get to walk past this display for the rest of the week. awesome.
