This says far more about me than I should ever admit in a public forum, but
one day I got so fed up with my coworker forgetting to put periods at the end of his sentences [Note: I am a technical editor; I have enough fact-checking to do without constantly hunting* for lapses in basic punctuation] that when he came back from lunch, he found a neatly wrapped sanitary napkin** taped to his monitor with a post-it note reading REMEMBER THE PERIOD.
This anecdote brought to you in honor of National Grammar Day.
*The last iteration of Microsoft Word spellcheck that could catch such basic errors was 2003. Later version algorithms think the sentence This is an example (see it not; is perfectly punctuated.
**We get along well like that.
