Life as of late has been… stressful to say the least, with Orochimaru-sama out of the village and the number of shinobi flooding into our city still increasing, things have been rather complicated to say the least. Though admittedly it’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially given the number of recent setbacks, but that is something for another time.

However, simply dealing with mundane trivialities such as going over several architects’ plans for new buildings (the population increase due to the Suna-nin are making current accommodations very cramped and tempers are getting extremely short mine own included) and the like is keeping me extremely busy, enough so that at times I wonder if there is life beyond the mountain of paperwork that is constantly demanding my attention. Nevertheless, the progress is, in short, fantastic for Otogakure - more people means a stronger nation, and to put in bluntly, our numbers have been dwindling until only recently.

Perhaps it is merely age hopefully not! that is affecting me, but it troubles me when a village can only claim perhaps one or two live births per year (more like every other, really) and still expect to thrive. I highly doubt that Orochimaru-sama ever bothered to consider such a thing; as the village, to him, is only a tool to be used against Konohagakure, rather than… well… a village of people or something of any sort of permanency.

If we are to remain a strong village (by that, I mean self-sustaining), we cannot rely merely upon immigrants as the bulk of our population; because, as often as not, those people are simply going to move on, leaving this place behind just as they left their homelands. A matter of time really. We need to ensure that people that immigrate here stay and attach roots so that they won’t be inclined to leave readily should trouble befall the village.

Nevertheless, the addition of any shinobi into our ranks is a good thing - perhaps now I can set about getting an actual hospital (or even a school, should they actually decide to settle here) constructed: the infirmary in which I work now (now being relative of course, seeing as I’m currently drowning in a sea of paper), is far too small to be used for the number of people that now dwell here. This fact was driven home by the number of injuries sustained in the brief conflict with the Konoha shinobi during the ‘peace’ treaty with the Hokage.

At any rate, I’ve pulled the penned maps I drew of Konoha from years ago and have been studying them - not for invasion purposes or anything of that nature, merely tracking how the village grew and changed in order to support itself, hoping to find something that will enable me to assist this place in flourishing as well. We need a city planner… I am not cut out for this sort of work and can only hope that Orochimaru will return soon, he has a far, far better grasp over these nuances than I ever will.
