Sweeney Todd Redux & HONEY!!!!!

Aug 31, 2010 20:48

For the agriculturally inclined...

This weekend we must deal with five or six excess chickens and perhaps as much as twenty pounds of excess honey.

If you missed Sweeney Todd day in July, or just can't get enough of such things, we're planning to process the chickens Saturday. It's liable to be raining, and they're black-feathered, so it might be the abbreviated version (skinning rather than plucking).

Sunday we'll be taking off our honey super. This involves, theoretically, simply opening the top of the hive, removing frames from a box which is wonderfully devoid of bees thanks to a one-way door on it, and bringing them inside. In reality, that stage might not go so smoothly, but we only have veils enough for us, so helpers would watch the process (smooth or exciting) from a safe distance. Once we have the frames, then there's a lot of sticky & tasty work in removing the honey (inside, away from the bees), and we'd be delighted to have company and help with that task. Bring a small jar, and you can take home some honey as well.

If you're interested, call or email for times and details.
