Three basic states of mind

Aug 18, 2008 01:47

1. The first state of mind is preparing, as in when you're getting ready for work or doing something for a deadline.

2. The second state of mind is reacting, literally when you react to outside stimuli, or to your interpretation of them.

3. The third state of mind is watching: you may be acting, but you do not have any anticipation of future aims and you are not reacting to past stimuli.

The "preparing" state has a focus on the future. The "reacting" state has a focus on the past. The "watching" state has a focus on the present. The only common activity I know of in which most people are in the watching state is dreaming.

Likely lucid dreaming (or aware dreaming if there is no intention in the dream) can be used to practice entering the watching state and to gain familiarity with it.
