Important information for all of you!

hey everyone!

one might think that on this collaboration's 4th anniversary (YAY US \0/) i'd come with cake and fic and great art, but sadly this is not the case.

over in tumblr i just discovered a link to a livejournal post that totally made my brain explode:

Apparently LJ is now blocking the IP addresses of users who posted gay content to their livejournal.

i'm not gonna get into any more details on the case since you can read it all up in the post linked above, but as an IT professional i'm trying to help those affected.
in case you ever get blocked by lj, there's a few possibilities for you to still get access to the website and save what you need:

1. Proxies

proxies are a great way of browsing the interwebz if the pages aren't dynamic or don't have much content. you're basically connecting your computer to a proxy server located somewhere in the middle of nowhere and all the pages you wish to see are loaded by the proxy server and will then be sent to you (hence lj can only see the server's IP address but not yours).

here's a few links to proxy server lists:
http://hidemyass.com/proxy-list/
http://www.proxy4free.com/list/webproxy1.html

if you google "proxy server list) you should get plenty of other results as well.

2. VPN

Virtual Private Network is definitely my connection of choice \0/ as the name says, your computer connects to a private network that will provide you with web content with their direct connection to the web. that model works kind of like a proxy works, except proxies only work for http/https/ftp/socks data and vpn covers your entire connection.

my favorite one is http://www.spotflux.com/ because it's located in the US and blocks close to nothing \0/ (also great for watching tv shows on the networks' websites, e.g. teen wolf on mtv.com!)

i hope this helps and if you have any more questions on how these things work or if i have found any more alternatives in the meantime, hit me up!

lots of gay-content-love,

sareru <3

pa: apparently you can back up your posts on dreamwidth so if you wanna do that and don't have an account yet, go go go!
