[Bleach] Memories of Nobody - A Mary-Sue checklist

Sep 10, 2007 11:56

I should watch anime raws more often. Seriously. I haven't done any comprehension exercises in japanese for a looong while now and I'm sure my comprehension skills could have been a lot better otherwise, but, well, I'm glad that I did at least understand the easier dialogs and (hopefully) the basic storyline of the Bleach movie. I will be waiting for the subs now, watch it one more time to understand the rest and the more complicated explanations... and after that, try to ignore that this movie even exists!¬_¬

Meet the new main character Senna, the center of our new Bleach universe. Either my lack of understanding the real depths of this sophisticated story and new character makes me get the greatness of this girl all wrong, or she is really so much the perfect prototype of damsel-in-distress!Sue it hurts!
I was bored and made a short Mary-Sue checklist profile of this new heroine:

Sueish name: Senna (and either I did misunderstand this, or she is way too cool for a family name. So call her Senna. Senna for friends, strangers, enemies... [though I think her supposed family grave had the name Satô written on it, so she might have an ordinary name after all]) - needs verification

Sueish looks: Biiig orange/red/golden eyes, depends on your interpretation. Does the shortest mini-skirt in Bleach history also count?

Popular character: Yepp. Ichigo likes her - a lot! -, the kids love her, the admiring anonymous crowd of course as well. The other shinigami possibly too, but that needs verification.

Seeks attention? You bet she does. And oh does she get that attention!

Sueish background: Beautiful dusk scenery while she gets everybody and their cat's attention, whirling fall foliage, wonderful sunlight for the tragical end...

Tragical past: There's something about a happy family, but suddenly her father dies - or she dies - she doesn't seem to be so sure about that, but there are several tragical flashbacks full of angst.

Sueish abilities: When she attacks, she whirls up a lot of aesthetic fall foliage, Yumichika would approve. She's also more a dancer than a fighter, oh the beauty! And her zanpakutô is a Shakujo (like Miroku's staff in Inuyasha), who'd need an uncool real sword anyway?

Romance with the main character: Oh hell, yes! As soon as Senna appears, Rukia suddenly remembers that she has to go to Soul Society NOW and leaves her alone with Ichigo. How foolish would that be? Everybody knows you can't leave a Sue alone with the main character, even when this main character is Mister Not-Interested-In-Women Ichigo!

How the Sue makes the main character act ooc: Let's make a list:
- Ichigo buys her a red ribbon for her hair. Why do I always come to totally dislike girls with ribbons in their hair???
- When he invites her to go home with him (WTF anyway?!), he goes through the main entrance and sort of introduces her to his father and his sisters *dot dot dot*
- Woe is Rukia when she sits down on his bed - Senna is not only allowed to do the exact same thing (he doesn't even scowl), but she also lolls around on his mattress (did I mention that she has the tiniest mini-skirt in Bleach history ever? Yeah, she shows her legs a lot while doing that) and finally falls asleep on his bed!Oo;
- Ghost kids love Senna even more than Ichigo - but when this kind girl offers this kid to search for his Daddy with him, suddenly the three of them are playing happy family, Senna and Ichigo being the caring parents. Admire the perfect and happy harmony.♥

Stronger than the main character? No, probably not since he has to rescue her, thus the damsel-in-distress-type. But her first appearance would let you think that since she easily defeated the ghosts while he couldn't even harm them.

And finally saving the world...? Of course, she sacrifices herself for whatever reasons, seems like the living world and Soul Society would clash otherwise or something like that. But in any case, if it weren't for our selfless and tragic heroine, the end of the world was near!

That and a lot more embarrassing scenes with romantic!Ichigo and a flying red ribbon etc. etc. etc. Oooh Rukia, never leave him alone anymore, do you hear me? I'm usually not a IchiRuki shipper in a romantic way (their friendship ROCKS though!), but I still prefer your influence a lot more than a random Sue's one. And Tessai even had to step in for your drawings, and it's just not the same. Sorry Tessai, but your drawings suck even more than Rukia's, they're not even funny!D:

Dear Bleach movie producers.
No seriously, on what kind of moldy crack have been? I'm glad the second movie sounds a lot better than the first has been, I hope you won't make such a mess like this one again, otherwise I might not forgive you messing up my two favorite characters Hitsugaya and Ichigo (again, in Ichigo's case).

No love
