Yeah. I have gotten used to the 2:1 thing myself of course. It's weird when trying to log but overall it does seem to be a much better system for this kind of theme in general!
I'm OK with either 1:1 or 2:1 - I think the main flaw with 2:1 on Persona is that it got implemented after the great majority of the FC cast ... grew out of high school. I know it was a little vexing to find out my character's one year decision to stay in the sticks became a two year decision. :|
This problem goes away however since you're doing it from the get go.
I would say 2:1 would be a better choice because it slows FC decay, which is more of a problem with this theme than with some others, because there is not much of a difference between a 22 year old and a 27 year old, but there's a LOT of difference between a 10 year old and a 15 year old.
I would actually recommend having a separate calendar, one more in tune with 'real life' time, for festivals and holidays. I don't think it's asking too much to be able to steal Christmas DURING Christmas, even if it may be something of a 'Holiday Special episode.'
I don't care much fr the PMush system. I like time moving along (I don't really see 1 vs 1 as racing) and frankly the advantage of 'a holiday can last longer' is---not really a disadvantage in the other system, the other system does it just fine. The only REAL advantage is them aging more slowly--but is aging really a serious issue? Getting older means not being shackled to the original concepts in the anime, which honestly would make the game better--not worse. And frankly the advantages of being younger on PMush have generally been ignored and frankly the omega omega super duper stasis of the PMush game is its hugest weakness.
In general i like having the days be the same. the japanese holidays are ahrd enough for me to keep track of when the days are the same.
Getting older means not being shackled to the original concepts in the anime, which honestly would make the game better--not worse The problem arises when someone apps a 12 year old character, drops, and someone else apps them three years later, and... suddenly now it's not 'that character.' This is not a problem at all for OCs.
Now, of course, you can reasonably question whether or not this really matters, and it certainly wouldn't be an issue immediately, but it may be something that can be avoided completely with a little thought!
it's not really going to be that character regardless. If a player plays a character not long enough to make significant impact and drops, the age thing is readily retconnable. If they did, then they wouldn't be the 'character' upon being picked up.
Beingi less tied to the canon is only a good thing. Considering they don't start aging till the series is hopped into there's years of possible content time to get your schoolchild on. It's not even like PMush where everybody is starting a second or third yea in highschool. In many cases it's pre highschool!
regarding your second cmoment, I grok it but idk, I find 6 years of school to be dull as fuck. It's bad enough knowing i'm a college student for 6 years on PMush.
I also don't really see how what you say is a problem. I'm sure if we were dealing with people who were incapable of creative thought rather than folks who are specifically here to deal with creative thought, then it could be an impediment to reenacting one's theme wholesale (PersonaMush)
But a 2:1 speed more or less cripples everyone who wants to move at a normal rate and actually enjoy aging because, guess what, it's not actually fun doing that at a 2:1 rate. If the options are 2:1 or 1:1, I'd pick 1:1 every time. Meanwhile going 1:1 rate leaves merely 3-6 years of being a schoolgirl--wait, that's a lot of time actually!!
I'm not on PersonaMUSH so I don't have a feel for how well the 2:1 ratio works in practice, but I would note that some of the longer-running series actually factor character aging, advancing through grades and graduating from one school to the next into the story. Sailor Moon takes advantage of the Sailors' graduation from middle to high school in Sailor Stars, for instance, and I believe Card Captor Sakura sees Sakura moving up in grades as well. Besides, let's face it - most magical girl series do involve coming-of-age and general growing-up type tropes to varying degrees
