I shamelessly appropriated this interesting excerpt:

That's really, really sad. I guess I knew that though. That's why people buy BMWs which cost a year's annual salary. They somehow need to not only know that they earn more than their neighbors, but demonstrate it.
How the fuck does that bring happiness?
God set it up so simply:
"He who accumulates the most joy possible, wins."
Sometimes the simplest things are the most elusive.
