Never wrestle a pig. You both get dirty and the pig enjoys it.

Last night we watched two disc from the Masters Of Horror series by John Carpenter and Stuart Gordon. I was most impressed.
John Carpenters follows a man you goes in search of a rare film Le fin absolut du monde for a client in return of money. The previous viewing of the film in festivals ended in bloodshed [reminds me of Demons a little?] and warnings of the power of such a film are noted throughout his search combined with 'sightings' and very strange/paranormal occurances. The film goes at a pace which keeps your attention with a good story - despite my feeling that it was 'stolen' a little ;) This film also made me wonder what happened after the camera had rolled with both me and Mike debating The angel who was kept as an artifact as he starred in the film - the angel who was sacrificed [had wings cut off] and kept chained by the client. We wondered if all those who came into contact with the film - were drawn to it and watched it only to be led into violence or suicide and as the Angel collected the film at the end would he watch it? My theory has changed a little. I stick to my feelings that Angels are not above temptation [if you go by the fact that Lucifer were an Angel and fell for the temptation of power] and determin [like us] this themselves. However I believe the people who watched it and descended into violence/suicide [some not all] had something which they felt guilty/sad enough to kill or commit suicide because this was part of what they saw. The Angel who will essentially be pure of heart and mind would be free - although perhaps this would be cancelled out when he watched because he succumed to the video.... A line from the critic about how directors/film makers have a power of us which we as filmgoers dare them to push, safe in the knowledge that they will never take us too far to be true. I want the film maker to push boundries and I enjoy being at the mercy of a film wanting it to make me feel a whole wealth of emotions, but really I don't want him to go so far as to irrevocably change me? I think that some films, good films, change us a little in the way we behave the way we think about things.

Stuart Gordons I found to be the more scary than thinking film. A student dreams of a rat with a human face when his room is the point where two dimensions collide. An old man tells of a witch who holds the power of men 'the devil does not collect blood - he collects souls' and who will make him do terrible things.
This was great. Real easy viewing and the ending i expected to be a happy one where everything is solved .... but I was wrong and I was pleased. It ended the film on a much more disturbingly horror feel than everyones okay! we killed the boogeyman! hoorah! It features the lead from Dagon and is by the director that gave us Dagon, Re-animator series [any others?] and again feature Miskatoni [sp! sp!] university. I remember this name being in Re-animator and Dagon MIKE! I can't remember what it means other than the director saying 'these are my films' if anything.

Today I had my appraisal and I got some really good remarks. Am now sitting properly at work with armrests and everything. Apparently the pins and needles I have occasionaly had in m y hands are from bad posture and if I continue to sit poorly there is not only rsi but corprol [sp] tunnel which typists can get and means you require an operation in your wrists as the tendons stiffen. Eeeek moootherfucking eeek. ALso Bad sitting where your thighs are restricted can mean thrombosis. Tony G had corporal tunnel and Nadera downstairs had thrombosis [both from working] and hers spread to her lungs.
So sat with hands straight, back straight et al. It is really uncomfortable though :(

have a good day y'all !
