Monday morning... time for work! I made two discoveries this morning: one, that oatmeal that takes a long time to cook is not a practical choice when the baby doesn't want to stop nursing and let you cook, and two, that I don't have enough oatmeal for us to eat it all week anyway. This morning I had an egg, tortilla and cheese, with hot sauce. And coffee. Today we have sandwiches for lunch, with cottage cheese and fruit cocktail, and a small apple each (the apples are from my mom's tree, so they are really tiny!). Tonight I will make up a big batch of waffles to freeze for quick breakfasts. I will have to make my own syrup from sugar since I wasn't able to afford any at the store - but that's okay, that's the kind I grew up eating anyway. I just have never been able to make it come out like my mom's... wish me luck!
So far so good, and I haven't cheated by using peanut butter or celery yet. Yesterday I did eat a couple of crackers that had been left on the table before I realized what I was doing. It's kind of challenging to remember that the kinds of foods that are usually available are off limits this week. My husband says he's disappointed that I didn't even consider buying pilot bread - what kind of Alaskan food stamp challenge is this, anyway, he says, with no pilot bread and no Spam?
