They suck us dry until there's nothing left...

It's not like there aren't demons outside of Chicago. Of course, there are. Why else would there be a sad lack of Archangels in the area if there weren't demons prowling every inch of the world? And not every demon is as inclined as some to want to explore the wonders of the Rift. Some have their own empires to build- some already have empires ( Read more... )

Aria is not good at resting.

It appears that she can rest for about three days tops, and that was with going to the training room every day and punching something several times.

She needs fresh air, she needs to run around a little and get a proper look at Chicago…

It’s on her way out that she spots Natasha and her glance immediately skips over her… before sliding back as a slightly confused half frown appears on Aria’s face.

She’s been to ports before… has seen waifs staring in a slightly broken way up into the air but this…

This one is special for some reason that she can’t quite place.

Aria makes her decision.

She stomps over to the girl and tries a reassuring smile “Hello?”

She’s curios and somewhere deep inside a little scared…

Because that’s the look her father used to wear constantly, her fallen angel of a father...

It takes a second for Natasha to react to someone speaking to her and a second longer to find her voice. She doesn't speak often- doesn't have to with Luther, really, but she knows better than to not make the effort when she's out in public.

"Hi," she says softly. Even in that one word, you can hear the unrefined Cajun dialect she hasn't been able to shed for decades.

Aria is starting to get really scared now, she tries covering it with another reassuring smile.

There are several reasons being highlighted right now as to why Aria prefers to get angry when unsure.

"Yeah, I'm Aria, are you a basement resident?" A human, she can leave if this person is just a human or a wanderer...

Except she can't, because this woman reminds her of both of her parents after her father left.

And considering what happened to both of her parents Aria is not going to let herself just run off.

"I'm Natasha," she answers politely and smiles in a way that doesn't quite reach her eyes. It vanishes the second she mentions a basement. "I'm not... I'm not sure what you mean by that?"

Luther didn't exactly have specifics. He just told her to stake out the Conrad- the angels there pick up strays and she's bound to be picked up too if she just waits long enough. Or something like that.

Damn.

This woman can't be that bad though... right? Or at least Aria would like to think so.

She's not that protective of others but occasionally her mothers guarding instincts flare into life at inconvenient moments.

This is one of them.

"It's a place, they look after angels and wanderers down there... I think that maybe, I mean if you want to..." Aria bites her lip uncertainly, cursing her luck that she has to be the one doing this.

Explaining things is not her strong-point.

"Oh," Natasha says, nodding feebly. "You could take me there? I just got in... And I don't have a place to go."

She probably trusts this woman about as much as she trust her, but that's because she has difficulty trusting people she meets. After all, being far too trusting put her into this situation in the first place.

"Sure, fine, I can do that" Aria nods in a slightly useless way and turns back to the elevator, expecting Natasha to follow.

It looks like she won't be going out today at all, unless she sneaks out later.

Right, first the basement and looking after people.

Aria's always been good at structure.

Natasha stands and follows, revealing her movements to be oddly dreamlike, as if she's moving through something less than reality. Perhaps she is. Hard to tell with her, the way her mind's been fractured.

"I don't need a caretaker," she says, as if she can sense that the woman feels the need to take care of her. Most people do, after all. She just gives off that sort of vibe. "I just need a place to stay. It was a long flight."

Aria should consider herself lucky that this is one of Natasha's saner days, otherwise this situation would be twice as uncomfortable.

Aria blushes a little and chooses to maneuver into the elevator instead of answering immediately.

She honestly tries not to be too protective... but the other option is being a utter bitch and Aria is already starting to get attached.

She was starting to feel relieved that fate had decided to be vaguely kind to her and make her a vengeance Angel.

Eventually Aria manages to splutter out "I'm not, I'll just get you in, try and get you settled and then I'll be off again."

Natasha deigns not to notice the blush and follows her into the elevator, standing ramrod straight with her hands clasped together. One would think she was trained in the finest finishing school in the world to get herself to look like that. You'd be wrong in thinking that though.

"Thank you," she says politely, lowering her head so she's not staring vacantly ahead. "You're very kind."

Mama didn't raise her not be completely polite to strangers even if she is wary of them. She has no reason to be, of course. It's just a thing with her.

"No problem" Aria mutters, also staring straight ahead rather awkwardly.

She needs to find a guardian angel probably, or at least a doctor.

Hell, anybody but her would be a good idea at this point.

Eventually she realises that she hasn't pressed the button and leans over to press it in a rather embarrassed way.

Really, when did she think that anything requiring her to interact with other beings would be a good idea?
