Scarlett's walking in the park when the scent of burning flesh catches her nose. She was busy with her own thoughts, mulling over what's been happening lately. She's still confused at what to do with Leon and she doesn't even know who to ask. She knows she could ask Peter, but.. she doesn't know. Peter's good to her, but she's wary that he might judge her for it. And she doesn't want that judgement, not from him anyway
( ... )
Paz doesn't know why this girl keeps slipping into her life, but that doesn't give her a right to be rude. She steps away from the burning corpse before turning to face her again.
Scarlett doesn't quite know why she keeps finding Paz either. It's not necessarily a bad thing, she thinks. Sure, there's a slight wariness because she knows instantly that Paz is someone not to be fucked with. But she's a fellow demon. And Scarlett is not very well-mixed with her own kind, or many people for that matter
( ... )
"It's a warning. People always need to leave warnings when something is coming."
It's as simple as it works in Paz's mind. There is a warning, and then there is a blow. You can't have one without the other, and that's never going to change.
Scarlett doesn't quite react to that first, just stares at her, almost looking thoughtful. Well, that's something. She raises an eyebrow after a few moments, "Something's comin'?" she asks, "Well... fuck me, that sounds a bit fucking ambiguous.."
You are a mysterious one, Paz. She'll give you that.
"So, anyway, mysteries aside ya'know - how're you doing?" she asks, "Chicago treating you alright?"
Scarlett would argue with that. She doesn't allow anyone to treat her like anything. Chicago's treating her like shit and has done so ever since she got here. She's not allowing anything.
"Well, at least you seem to be having fun," she says, "Better than me anyway,"
She pauses, "Were you around when the networks went all haywire, people started blurting out their secrets?" she asks, "If not, you were lucky. I've been having problems ever since that,"
Paz doesn't particularly care for this girl's problems, but for the moment, she can't bring herself to be rude. She crosses her arms in front of her chest and shrugs.
And then stupid LJ never gave me a notif. ;___;shethrewstonesMarch 2 2012, 01:18:07 UTC
Scarlett nods, eyes lowering to the ground. "You're lucky.." she trails off and quietly swears to herself. She wants a cigarette, but she knows if she does start smoking, she's just not going to talk. She wants advice, even though she doesn't know why she's asking Paz.
She's going to anyway.
"Listen... just wondering," she begins and pauses, "Say.. you had a problem. With someone. And there was a lot of fucking feelings around it. You didn't know how to deal with them, didn't know if you should walk away because you don't want to deal with it or not, because they'd probably do something stupid if you did."
Paz doesn't know why Scarlett is asking her for advice either, because, in all fairness, she is not the greatest role model in Chicago. But considering that she asked, she can't really say no.
Scarlett crosses her arms and falls silent for a few moments. To summarize her feelings concerning Leon is both easy and difficult. There's a lot of them, but there's always two that flicker pretty close to the surface.
"I hate him." she says, her jaw set, "Makes my fucking blood boil,"
If you'll excuse the pun.
The second emotion is a little harder to say. It takes a while. "... But I pity the fuck out of him."
"Pity is a wasted emotion," Paz states succinctly. Hate, she can understand, but pity? Pity is worthless. "Why do you spend time with him if you can't see him as an equal?"
Scarlett looks down, taking that in. Pity is a wasted emotion. She's not sure how to process it, though.
"Because... well. I thought everything about me was fucked up. And.. he's just as fucked up as me." she says after a long pause. She's not really sure how to answer.
"And... I don't know. Sometimes it's better being with someone more fucked up than you because then I guess you're not as fucked up as you think. But.. I don't know."
There's frustration in her voice. Stupid Leon and the stupid feelings.
Feelings are very stupid. But on some level, Paz can see what she's getting at, and her lips press into a thin line. "It doesn't sound like pity. It sounds like empathy."
"Oh..." Scarlett sniffs and purses her lips. She's never really understood the concept. She's only ever cared for herself until now, no one else mattered. Or rather, no one else managed to get under her skin like Leon's doing now. She hates it, loathes herself as much as she loathes him for him doing it.
"No. Empathy can actually be useful, if you choose for it to be."
Not that she's entirely sure how -- she doesn't empathize with anyone, really -- but she knows that some demons have used it to their advantage in the past. It wouldn't be unfounded for Scarlett to do the same.

"Besides. It sends a statement."

"Depends on the feelings. What kind they are."

Or so she keeps telling herself.
"Is that any worse?" she asks.
