So drinking is good. It makes her smile at the decorations, enjoy the tipsy feeling, sway to the music, and forget the shadow.
She must be on her third by now. She hasn't kept track of exactly what went into it, how much alcohol has been consumed. Neither has Dinah.

He's well on his way to that- not rip-roarin' drunk, of course, but buzzed enough that he kinda staggers when he walks, which is hilarious in itself.
"Great party," he says, sidling up to Martha before gesturing to the disco ball with his drink. "I see you sprung for a disco ball."
Reply
It is hilarious. How desperate they are to get drunk as fast as possible. Like being in college all over again.
"Yes, sir, I did." Her lips slide to the right in an equally goofy smirk. "Thought it'd make for a nice touch. Considering. We're supposed to be dancing 'n you need a disco ball for that."
Reply
He is, of course, fairly convinced that he won't be dancing underneath any disco balls... At least right now. Ask him again when his Tom Collins count reaches numbers that can't be considered healthy for a man his age.

Her head's all fuzzy and she loves it.
"So, mister." She smirks, pointing her finger against his chest. "You going to dance, too? There's a disco ball!"
Reply
No, the narration doesn't know why Des is talking like a random Texan. We'll blame the alcohol on that. Or something.
"You can ask me again later if the barkeep doesn't cut me off though. That Dinah can mix a drink, I tell you."
And... Now he's swaying a little, but at least it's kind of accidentally on rhythm.
Reply
"Sides Dinah has strict rules not to cut anybody off unless they're vomiting or unconscious! 'm hoping you'll get to dancing before you get to that point."
Cause vomiting and dancing at the same time makes for a ridiculous mess and results in lots of tripping.
Reply
The narration had something to say to that, but it's going to decline because tonight is not the night to mock Des and his... Issues.
Reply
"Right, yes, if I can remember, I might have to do the same."
Snrk. The narration is afraid that JD can be blamed for putting lesbian thoughts into Martha's head.
Reply
Not that he's stumbled anywhere near such a thing... Yet.

Martha smiles up at him, slipping her arm around the back of his waist and pressing close and trying to get out the remaining drops from her glass.
"Do you need mistletoe to kiss me?"
Reply
He looks down at her with a wry look when she says those words.
"Never, Martha Jones."
And he leans down and kisses her, thankful that this time there's no worry that she'll start healing him and it'll break up prematurely.
Reply
She smiles into the kiss, slipping her arm around his neck.
Incredibly thankful for the very same thing.
Reply
He breaks the kiss briefly tapping his nose lightly against hers. "You don't know how badly I needed this."
The kiss. The drinks. A feeling of total blissful happiness overshadowing the gloom for once.
Reply
Martha smiles, sweetly, when his nose taps against hers.
"Not sure I realized how much I needed this, either."
She keeps pressed close, as her eyes slip close and she kisses him, again. It's really, really nice to not have to worry about the whole healing factor thing. Getting in the way.
"We should make this a monthly... thing. Drunken dance party." And for once, when mentioning the future, she doesn't think about how they have no idea where they'll be, what will happen in a month.
Reply
"I could get behind that," he grins, pushing thought away or at least letting the drunken buzz drown it out. "Maybe we get ol' Jack to knock a couple walls out and put us a club in here. That'd be something, wouldn't it?"
