Mark already feels that this wanderer is the coolest person in the world. Okay, it might be a slight exaggeration, but someone who wields a sword and wears those clothes? They are obviously awesome. He knows people in this universe who use swords on occasion. They sometimes work better on the monsters that fall through than guns and bullets do for instance.

However, it is clear that this wanderer is new from some universe much different than this one given the fact that he is attacking a bus.

He stares before his brain kicks into action, and Mark rushes over to help when thankfully the man does get out of the street before he's hit by anything. "Hey, you... okay? That's actually a... It's for travelling. People control it," Mark says with a small smile though there's concern in his gaze too. "You're... probably wondering where you are."

Oh, how to explain this...

"You mean it's domesticated?" Richard turns his gaze back to the blackened earth, watching as the smaller shining animals darted past. Oddly, they never strayed to the slightly higher ground that he stood upon.

"All of them? Tamed like horses- But the people are... inside..?" Confusion is painted over the man's face as he struggles to understand what he's being told. This place, this whole place is so different than anything he's ever seen.

Mark smiles a little when he calls it domesticated. That's such an adorable way of putting it. "Yes, basically. There's no harm that will come from them unless... you stand in front of one without giving them the time and space to stop."

Granted, there's car accidents too but he's not going to overwhelm Richard. "All of them." Another smile at the 'tamed like horses' part of it. "People are inside. They own those, and they get from one place to the next with them. They're made out of metal." And a lot more, but again, he doesn't want to overwhelm. "It was really valiant of you to try to protect everyone from them though."

Richard draws one eyebrow up. "So it isn't an animal at all. It's a carriage, propelled by magic." This is clearly the most logical assumption to jump to. He glances at the strange and fascinating scene before him, now watching as they roll by, noticing the wheels. While watching, Richard slides his sword back into its hilt. He turns and addresses the man before him.

"It was foolish. Dressing it up doesn't change what it is." Richard smiles, resting his hand on the top of the sword's hilt. "But it's kind of you to educate me on the truth of things." He sticks out his free hand. "My name is Richard."

"Pretty much. I mean, technically it's gasoline, but we'll go with magic to not overwhelm," Mark says with a firm nod though he would be more than happy to explain it all more in detail with pictures and hand puppets! "So there's magic where you come from? There's... not magic everywhere, just so you know. In fact, most people here don't know about magic."

They will probably think he's a crazy person.

"Foolishly valiant?" Mark offers with a smile of his own. Yes, this person is definitely awesome. "Hey, no problem. I'm here for all your educational needs." He reaches out, taking his hand and shaking. "Mark. Can I ask where... you came from?"

It seems like it's somewhere very different from where most people fall through, magic, swords. Awesome.

Richard nods in response to the question of magic. "Yes, I'd only just begun to learn about it, myself. Imagine learning that an old friend was actually one of the world's most skilled wizards- and more than that, he's not a friend at all, but your grandfather. The only magic I truly know is that which comes from wielding this sword. And even then, I barely scratch the surface of understanding." He sighs, one hand tightly gripping that of his sword's hilt.

"I was brought to a place against my will." He taps a finger to the collar bound around his neck. "I am a prisoner. Or I was. I haven't quite discovered if the Sisters are hiding here as well. Before that, I was in a country called D'Hara. Have you heard of it?"

Mark smiles reassured by this fact. "Really? That's cool then. Well, kind of cool, you might have a harder time learning about it more by yourself." Then he pauses. "Woah, I can't... imagine learning something like that. It sounds like a story."

Seriously. A real story.

He shakes his head at the sight of that collar. It's... not something that people really see on the sidewalks. "Geeze, I wonder if we can get that off your neck. I know some people who have lock picking skills," Mark says, leaning into look at it a little more closely. "No. It doesn't exist here. You're in Chicago right now. United States of America."

Richard shakes his head. "There's no lock to pick. It's bound together with magic. The more I learn about this 'gift' of mine, the more I want nothing to do with it." This man seems to enjoy the idea of magic, which concerns Richard slightly. He doesn't mind when people have or enjoy that Gift, but he doesn't want it dressed up to be something that it isn't.

"I'm afraid I don't know the place. But what do you mean D'Hara doesn't exist? A place cannot just... cease to exist."

"Is it the bad kind of magic? I know not all magic from all worlds is good," Mark says with a small smile at least not form what he's read after all, and he's read quite a bit. However, with Harry Potter so popular at present, the good type of magic is what most people think of.

"...you're in another universe so uh-- where you're from it exists, but it doesn't exist here. It still exists in your own universe, where you came from, but you're not there anymore and there's no way back. I'm sorry."

"Honestly, I'm not the person to ask. From what I've seen of magic, it's all nothing but trouble." The Gift had come upon Richard as a series of life threatening headaches. The love of his life had turned him away, told him that he was a disappointment unless he went with the Sister. He had been collared as a prisoner in order to learn how to use his 'Gift.' Richard wants nothing to do with it, but if he has to learn, he wants to learn fast so that he can get away and back to the more important things.

He takes a breath. "Another realm. I only know of the realm of the dead, the underworld. Are you telling me there's others?" He's going to ignore the part about there being no way back. Richard doesn't give up that easy.

"Really? Huh. I can see that. I mean a lot of our stories in the past, it's all about the trouble that magic can cause," Mark says thoughtfully as he thinks back on a few of them. Granted, the idea that magic is awesome is more common these days. However, even Harry Potter, magic can be used for bad.

It's about the people using it. "Yes, there are hundreds and thousands of them," he says, because while realm isn't the exact correct term, it's one that Richard seems to be able to understand. He'll use it.

"Hundreds and..." Richard drops off, feeling a bit light headed at the notion. It's something akin to culture shock, and moreso than when he first learned that he was Seeker. But letting the shock get the best of him made no sense in a time like this.

"If you have the chance to stay far from magic, do yourself a favor and keep it that way. This is only one of many examples of how it's done nothing but bring me trouble." Rocking back on his heels, Richard weights the options of how he can handle this situation at this point. "If there was a simple solution to this, would you tell me?"

Mark looks at him sympathetically. There's a certain level of protectiveness about his expression as he looks at him, because he is a new wanderer and because he is obviously completely out of his norm here.

"... I definitely will. I have no abilities for magic. I can't even do a card trick, not... that you likely know what those are," he says, looking at him with a small bit of uncertainty. "I would tell you if there was anything, but... there's not. No one has found a way back to where they're from yet, and a lot of people have been looking for hundreds of years now."

The news is harder for Richard to hear than he would like to admit. His hope isn't shattered, but it is fractured a bit. Perhaps it's for the best, though. Kahlan had sent him away, and now he was as far away as possible. This would be what she wanted- or at least that's what he believed.

"Not much that a single man could hope to accomplish that they couldn't, hmm?" Even so, Richard's curiosity was already getting the better of him, wondering what it was that those people had found out, and what it might be that he could find out that they might have missed.
