It’s been a rather quiet day in Chicago. Nothing too eventful, which could either be a blessing or a curse, depending on your point of view, but regardless-the day is quiet. And even with the quietness, there are people out and about, going about their daily routine with an odd short of shared obliviousness of anything that could possibly go wrong. There’s no saying things can’t go wrong, however. Things do happen.
And this is Chicago, after all.
In the early morning hours, Sara Ellis is out for a morning jog, like she does every morning. She’s taken to jogging with some kind of weapon on her, given what happened to her the last time she went jogging-today it happens to be a knife slipped into the pocket of her sweatshirt. It may not do much damage on her behalf, but it’s at least something, and it leaves her feeling a tad bit safer.
It really depends on the day with regards to whether or not she feels safe in Chicago, and she hasn’t lived through enough of this day to have decided either way. At this point, she’s just trying to make it through it and see how she does.
At about noon, Shawn Spencer can be seen out in front of the Kashtta, giving his wiener mobile a hose down. Yes, he’s aware that this an inadvisable thing to be doing in late fall in a place called the ‘Windy City,” but it’s something that needs to be done-Shawn may be a flake on other things, but taking care of his vehicle of choice is never something he takes lightly. It’s only when they belong to other people that he abuses them.
Also, the local carwash doesn’t handle what they consider to be a ‘custom’ vehicle.
That doesn’t really matter to Shawn, however. It saves him money, and it’s not like he can’t do it himself. It’s just … cold. He’s more than a little wet, and climbing on things to reach as much of the wiener mobile as he can. It’s not a sexy blond in a bikini, and for that, he may be heckled a bit, but it still could be a good time if the right people show up.
Shawn also thinks that not even a sexy blond in a bikini could make washing a wiener mobile by hand sexy, but sometimes it’s nice to fantasize, but that’s a matter for another time.
By the time late afternoon rolls around, Buffy Summers is in Grant Park.
She’s also an elephant.
There are several points that need to be addressed here-one, Buffy has been trying to shift on command for the longest time, and … she still hasn’t managed to do it yet. This happened with a mishap regarding a panther pouncing on her practically out of nowhere. (Rifted or shapeshifter or escaped from the zoo-the narration isn’t entirely sure. Just trust that it was there.) It was a brief moment of panic that was enough to trigger her fight or flight response and kick her Rift power into gear. A few minutes later, where there was once a very pretty tiny blond in very cute clothes, there is now an elephant in the shredded remains of those very cute clothes.
This ability is really wreaking havoc on her wardrobe.
Two, Buffy’s spent most of the afternoon like this. She’s trying to control it, and if it’s going to force her to shift against her will, the least she can do is figure out how to hold on to it, and shift back when she’s ready. It will just take … a little practice. Or a lot of practice. Either way, practicing will be had, and she will figure this out, sooner or later.
Three-she’s starting to get hungry. Now she just needs to figure out how to shift back. That might be harder than she originally make it out to be.
Finally, late that evening, Bela Talbot is walking into No Name, and settling at the bar for a drink, before making her way into the back. Why she’s there is entirely unclear, though odds are she’s probably looking for Damon, or work. She’s probably going to go with work, because actually admitting to looking for Damon is bad for his ego and therefore not the best idea. Never mind the fact that Bela actually likes Damon. It’s a rare miracle in Chicago, and he should appreciate it.
The narration is wondering why this entire set up is now about a murderous, cocky, shameless flirt of a vampire when that was not their intention at all in the first place, but alas, that is the way the world works.
Damon might not even be there, in which case, she will just say she’s there for a drink, and leave it at that. Regardless, she is there to be spoken to, should you choose to do so.
