[Backdated to the end of Rift Tales plot.]
About a week ago, Scarlett Langford found herself no longer human - but a horse. She first spent her day with a lion, adored by his followers and finally… she met Peter. She was only going to ask for help at first, but somehow, she suddenly felt compelled to follow him.
So, for the last week, she’s been following him about everywhere he goes. She’s been to a party, she’s been ridden into battle against a dragon. A huge dragon, for fuck’s sake. Not that she’ll ever tell anyone, but that one really scared her. And every morning, she gets taken out for an early morning ride. She wasn't happy with everything at first, but over time she’s gotten used to being stuck around him now.
On this particular morning, it’s cold and dark. She reluctantly follows him toward the park. The sun’s not even up get and she’s not very happy about that fact. The only time Scarlett’s awake before the sun comes up is when she’s been partying and enduring the long, drunk walk home; sneering at any early bird who dares to give her a filthy look.
But the fact she’s up bright and early before the sun’s risen just to go and exercise just takes the biscuit. It might have been the same thing every morning for the last week, but she’s not keen on it.
‘Can’t I sleep for just a little while longer?’ she asks with a snort. ‘We can come back later, but I just want to sleep some more. Have you any idea just how fucking uncomfortable it is to learn how to sleep when you’re suddenly a horse?’
Unfortunately, as she often is, her words go unheard. The only sounds Peter will hear are the disgruntled snorts and whinnys of a sleepy horse.
And what she doesn't know is as soon as the sun's up. She'll be finally back to her usual self.
