Mio Hongo is in a bar. Or perhaps a restaurant. Or a mall, or a theatre, or--anywhere really, but the point is that she is not in her office for once. She's taking the night (or afternoon, or morning) off and doing something that would be construed as ( Read more... )

Hopefully Mio does not mind company, because it's a crowded bar and the stool next to her is one of the few available seats in the place. Peter doesn't actually know her, but he thinks he's seen her around the Tower before, so he gives her a nod as he waits on the bartender.

He's not against conversation, he's just prone to waiting for other people to start it, and a little preoccupied trying to catch the bartender's attention.

Hopefully there will be no monsters tonight. Or explosions. Peter really doesn't want to deal with crazy rift antics, he just wants a beer. The rift does not always care, though.

Mio absolutely does not mind company! If she didn't want to talk to people, she wouldn't come to a bar. It's not like she can drink any of the alcohol there, after all. (At least, not without it ending badly for all involved, and Mio would prefer to avoid situations like that.)

Peter has probably seen Mio around the Tower quite a few times before. She spends nearly all of her time there, after all. It's just that with all of her duties she tends to be too busy to talk with individual residents as much as she'd like.

"Good evening," Mio greets Peter absent-mindedly as he sits down. She hadn't really been paying attention to him, but she'd seen him in passing before just enough times that she does a double-take. "...You look a bit familiar. You wouldn't happen to live at the Kashtta Tower, would you?" she asks.

"I do," he answers, turning a little towards her, taking a closer look as he does. "You work there, right?"

He's asked around enough to have some idea of the people in charge of some kind, and he's mostly sure he's right. He hasn't had to actually talk to anybody in charge yet, but it seemed like a good idea to have an idea who to go to in case of anything.

"Indeed I do," Mio confirms. "And far too much, some people have argued, which is why I am here tonight."

She sets down her drink and holds out a hand for Peter to shake. "Mio Hongo. I'm the head of Torchwood there. Nice to meet you."

"Peter Burke. Nice to meet you too, Miss Hongo," he says, shaking her hand with a smile. "Sounds like that's the kind of job where working too much comes with the territory. From what I've heard about Torchwood, that is."

"Please, just Mio," she replies. "I don't stand on formality when I'm not working." Well that, and the fact that she dislikes her surname--too many bad family associations. Not that she is going to tell Peter that, of course. Especially not on a first meeting.

"And yes, working far too much definitely goes with the territory. Always too many things to do and not enough people to do them. At least things have been pretty quiet lately, now that that whole Roderick Usher situation has been resolved." That whole mess was a pain and a half--literally, in Mio's case.
