Two days ago Sarah told Elizabeth that she was going to die. It wasn't in those words, but she knew by the look on her face what had happened. Two days ago Elizabeth saw Josef's death too. As promised, she has not moved from his side except to write an entry to those that she wanted to write to, that she could remember that she needed to write to even then she was in Josef's arms while she wrote that ( ... )

It should be horrible to think. People would think that it would be horrible to think that way, but for them it isn't at all. They do not want to live without the other. There would be nothing left of the one that survived, and it is a comfort and a relief that they will die together.

It does not mean that she does not feel tense as she steps down the middle of the sidewalk. The tenseness slides through her, because she knows that it is coming and she knows that she will have to watch it happen. Elizabeth would never be okay with seeing him hurt, seeing him hurt that much.

There was very little that she saw when she saw his death, but she saw blood, his blood. There was so much of it, and she doesn't let herself think too much about it over the two days that they have. When they go out, it is only the two of them, living life, holding on to the few hours that are left of it. She has not slept as she promised herself that she would not sleep ( ... )

For all his complaints about time and how it has flown by far too quickly for his liking, in all its unforgiving rage, the last few minutes slow down. They slow down to an almost uncomfortable lull and it's all in slow motion, despite the fact his mind is screaming and he's attempting to move and think and speak as quickly as possible. It's like finding himself slipping through quicksand, stuck at the very end.

There is comfort at the fact they took every moment they possibly could and spent it together. It had been so long since they could do that, just the two of them, with no burden at their shoulders. She hadn't smiled as much as she has in the past two days, and it was so beautiful to see, it was the most beautiful thing to see and still.

He is not ready. He is not ready to lose her. He is not ready to watch her die.

Josef is horrified he can't stop it, horrified that he sees the car coming and it's coming too fast, everything is coming to an end too fast, and it needs to stop, so he can regroup, so he can think, so he can do ( ... )

Sarah had been walking several steps behind them.

She'd wanted them to have as much time to themselves, remembering how Elizabeth had spoken of Josef, of how much they'd meant to each other, how much they'd done for each other. She'd wanted them to have that time, but it's getting so close and the angel needs to be there. There's no stopping it, and for the last two days, the angel has been stronger than Sarah, a blessing in disguise she will think ( ... )

It slows. It slows for her too, and Elizabeth cannot begin to understand what is happening or why. The angel knows that this is the death, this is it, but the rest of her is screaming out against it as much as he is. She screams the first time a bullet hits him, but it doesn't stop the rest from coming. Nothing stops the rest from coming, and she tries to pull him, but he's fighting her to protect her ( ... )

And she realizes now that people are only shot down like that if they have enemies and only Josef would have enemies, and she doesn't want him blaming himself because it's not- it's not his fault. Not for one moment, it is not his fault and she doesn't want that- that to be what he thinks about in the end ( ... )

The words calm him down more than anything else could. Black swims at the edges of his vision and he feels colder than he ever has, which is odd, as a demon. His skin should be warm but it's not as warm ( ... )

If he took that all back, they never would have met and it is not a life that she would ever want for herself. It is not one that she can imagine, not one that she wants to try to imagine, because there are so many amazing memories and nothing has ever made her happier than he has in so many ways, at so many times in her life.

Elizabeth can think back on so many memories, so many times when she was smiling, laughing with him. When there was no angel and no demon, there was nothing but Elizabeth and Josef, loving each other, being happy. One time she sprayed him with cool whip and he chased her around the kitchen ( ... )

She has reached the end, and there is nothing but peace and love.

That's all there is along with the darkness that starts to surround, encroach on her vision. It's hard to see, the world is blurring in front of her, but she's turned again so her head is resting more against him. Her lips are cold but she doesn't notice, doesn't feel it, no longer has the strength to lift her hands, to move.

Her breathing has slowed.

It's okay to let go now, he says. Josef says. That's his voice reaching to her again.

"Okay," she says softly, sounding young again but not in a bad way, not in a bad way at all. In a way, that isn't weighed down, that's accepting, that's ready, that's being let free from chains that have been pressing against her for months. There is no angel anymore. The angel has already left, already died, and it's only Elizabeth, completely at peace.

Some part of her still struggles to hold on. She just barely feels the kiss to her forehead. It's cold, everything is numb, and her body feels heavy, weighted.

I'll bring him to ( ... )

It's closer now than it ever has been before, and never has Josef felt the weight of it all press down on him like it does now. He is struggling to keep breathing and the demon is loud in his head, screaming inside his mind, fighting his rest. The demon is always and has always been loud in his head but it is especially loud now as it wants to spread the fear that's bursting inside Josef's chest. He shouldn't be scared, not if Elizabeth isn't scared, but then, he's never been as brave as her ( ... )

"She's waiting for you," Sarah reminds him, and she doesn't know how she is able to almost smile but she does, her hand never once leaving his, until it's time to close his eyes the way she closed Elizabeth's. "Go be with her. It's okay ( ... )
