Miss Buffy Summers happens to be sitting in her office, getting used to her new desk.

It's been a while since she's been behind a desk. In fact, it's been a while since she's done the guidance counselor thing, period. It seems like forever ago that she was doing this in Sunnydale, and now that she's getting the chance to do it here under similar circumstances? It feels good.

It feels really good.

So she's sitting at her desk, adjusting her pencil holders, computer, and assorted desk materials while she waits for a student to arrive. She's not expecting a lot of traffic on the first day of school, but who knows? She might get someone.

Soon-ish.

... She has a feeling she's going to be really bored.

There is a Xander.

He knows that Buffy is here working, and well, Xander is here schooling. It is all very weird, and he wants it to stop, but he also wants to graduate so that he can get that raise at his own work.

He stops by her office, knocking on the door before opening it.

"So I'm having some trouble with my emotions." Xander walks in without waiting for any further permission to step inside. "Basically, my emotion over you working at a school while I'm... going to the school. You realize, I have to call you Ms. Summers?"

It is really of the weird, okay?

Buffy can't help the smirk as he comes in, picking her chin up off her hand. Previously there had been no entertainment, but now there is Xander entertainment, and that is a much more exciting thing.

"How do you think Dawn felt when I actually did this at Sunnydale High? I'm pretty sure she avoided the guidance counselor's office as much as possible."

It doesn't even occur to her that Xander probably doesn't know who Dawn is. But that's the difference a couple of years can make -- in Buffy's case, more than a couple, but the point still stands.

Xander is glad that he can provide good entertainment. He shuts the door behind himself and plops down in the chair in front of her desk, lifting his feet up and sliding his hands behind his head.

Like he owns the place.

"Dawn? One of those future people, huh?" He shakes his head. "I'm sure it's weirder for me, because I went to high school with you before."

Xander is allowed to make himself comfortable. Until Buffy kicks him out at least -- he can't graduate if he's spending all day in the guidance counselor's office."

"Yeah. Dawn is one of those future people. Kinda." Dawn is a long story. Buffy isn't sure she has the time to explain it. "And ... you do have a point there. That does make it a little odd."

Hey, he's totally here when it's appropriate for him to be, not cutting class at all. Ahem.

"Kinda. I'll ask you about it later especially since she seems important," Xander says after a moment, but he knows they're limited on time. He won't skip his whole entire class. Honest. "Only a little? I love how adjusted you are to the weird. You'd think I'd be more adjusted, but I'm used to the other weird. The kind with fangs."

She laughs. "Okay, it can be a lot weird, but I did this job back at Sunnydale High for a while, and I missed it. It feels good to get back to it. I ... could help people without being violent destructo-girl. I could just be Buffy."

"Thank you. A lot weird," Xander says, seemingly satisfied but then he smiles a little when she describes why she likes it so much. "Hey, you help people all the time without only being violent destructo-girl, but now, you get paid for it. Anyway, there's no just at all about being Buffy. Even when she's not in slayer mode. Just so you know."

Her smile widens a bit and she nods. "I know. But ... Slayer girl needs to take a backseat sometimes. And I think this is good. This is where I need to be."

"Yeah, she does," Xander says in agreement after a moment. "I'm glad you have this, and even if it is way weird, I'm glad you're the counselor here. You'll help out a lot of kids. In the Buffy way."

Not only the Chosen One way.

"I hope so," she says with a nod, before tipping her head to the side. "Speaking of which, what brings you back to these hallowed halls? Trying to relive some of the glory days?"

"Ha. That's a good joke. Do you really call them the Glory Days?" Xander says with a slight smirk. He does not think of it exactly as the Glory Days.

And yet, in some ways, they were. It was Willow, the Scooby Gang. Chicago has become home, and he wouldn't go back to Sunnydale. "No, actually I work for that woodshop guy and he said he'd give me a big raise if I went back and got the diploma so here I am. All for the money, Buff."

Buffy isn't sure where her Glory Days were, but she has a feeling that high school is probably as close as she was going to get. Especially given where things are going back home.

"Good for you," she smirks. "But that does mean you should be going to class, and not sitting here hanging out with me."

That makes Xander feel sad to know that those were the glory days, also not surprised given what he's been told about what comes in the future.

He smirks back at her, shaking his head and getting to his feet. "I know. I just wanted to check in on my favorite, Buffy, okay? And now I've checked so I will go back... to doing the school thing."

"Good," she nods, before turning back to her desk. "But if you stop back after school, we could go do some not school related things?"

Because Buffy still needs her Xander time. Even if she is his guidance counselor.

"Awesome. That would be good. I had the five second urge to say To the Bronze." He is quiet as he gives her a Very Serious look from the doorway. "We need a new Bronze, Buff."

Xander smiles at her. "But until then, not-school related things would be fun. I'll see you after!"

And he will wave and go attend his classes and... half pay attention to them?
