The next sip he takes is considerably longer as he turns her question over in his head. "Well... my firm-er, my dad's firm-deals with a lot of supernatural law, which is kind of a useless phrase since there really isn't such a thing. So a lot of our cases are focused on people who didn't mean to do things, like... okay, like a fire elemental who accidentally burned down a house because he was lighting a cigarette and sneezed. Things like that.

"We just want to get people like that out of the system, since the system's not meant to deal with them. If a cop sees a house in ashes, it was either an accident or arson. So when you pull in someone for questioning who says, hey, yeah, I did that but I didn't mean to because I can't control my 'power' sometimes, the cops won't think twice about tossing his ass in jail for arson, or worse. But it's still tricky. Even though we've got a whole team of private investigators working for us, it can still be really difficult to prove or disprove things like that in a courtroom filled with people who want nothing to do with you and think you should be locked up just for existing."
