Luna Lovegood came to Chicago almost a week ago. She was sleepwalking at the time and found herself no longer at Hogwarts, but in the middle of a busy, foreign city instead. She was lucky enough to come across someone who was Wanderer-friendly and was lead to Kashtta ( Read more... )

"Yes, that would be him," Harry says. "I spent a lot of time with him outside of school so I suppose I've a habit of not always referring to him as professor Lupin. He's much younger than the one that you met though, don't think he believes he was ever able to become a professor."

He smiles back at her. "Hermione, yeah. I'm certain you'll get to know her more here at least. We've all got to stick together a bit, yeah? We're all from the same universe so we know about magic, know a little about what we've all been through." It helps to come here and not be quite so alone.

Harry remembers what it was like to feel alone. He felt that way for most of his life.

"Quite useful. Never have to worry about breaking my wand." Especially considering they can't get a new one and then he laughs a little, reaching for her hand and pulling her further into the park. "C'mon then, you're about to find out."

There are always vendors about. Never hard to find food in Chicago at all, and he's going to show her how easy it can be.

"He was. Yes. One of the few supporters that I had left when everything exploded as it did. I appreciated it," Harry says with a small smile. "I remember, yes. I'm glad you believe that, Luna."

He can't.

He doesn't. But he has had difficulty believing in himself too and plenty of other people did. Look what he was able to do even if he never saw it through tot he end.

"Oh, that's a shame," she says, her smile faltering a little. Poor Professor Lupin, she really does like him as a teacher. The lack of confidence in him does make her sad.

"But of course," she says with a new smile, nodding her head. Although she doesn't always see eye to eye with Hermione - she does think the girl is a little close-minded - she is still happy that she is here. As different as they are - Hermione is still her friend. That comes first. And getting to know her better is definitely a good thing.

"You don't have to tell me anything about the future if you don't want to, Harry," she tells him, tilting her head to the side, "But if you feel the need to, that's alright with me too. Talking about things does help,"

Luna smiles brightly, she is definitely glad to hear that. And now she is just going to be happily be pulled along by the hand by Harry in search of these... hot dogs. The squirrel has already finished his biscuit crumbs and now perches tightly onto her shoulder, sniffing and twitching as they walk through the park.

"Where are we going, Luna?" the Squirrel asks.

"For something called a hot dog," Luna says with a smile, "Is it exciting?"

"It is a shame except for the fact that he was able to become a Professor in the end," Harry reminds her so someday he'll believe, he'll have the confidence. "And there are three of us here to say what a good teacher he was."

It has to help him build up that confidence, doesn't it?

He likes to think that it will.

"I would only want to tell you if you wanted to know," Harry says in answer to her, and it's-- well, it isn't strange to him because it's Luna. But everyone else from their world, they've either firmly wanted to or firmly have not wanted to know what would have come if they had stayed. "It's all different now though, isn't it?"

They're in Chicago after all.

The future that he lived, it's not a future that anyone else will live.

Harry glances at her wondering what-- and then he realizes she's talking to the Squirrel. This will certainly be interesting if nothing else. He walks up to the hot dog vendor, buying one of them and then handing it to her before buying another for himself.

"Honestly, I don't know if the squirrel will like the hot dog, but it might like the bread... portion?" He is no expert on squirrels.
