There are things Scout does not have. Those things include, but are not limited to: money, the ability to avoid killing people at all times, and most of her sanity.

There are a few things Scout does have. They include dried blood all over her face, a giant grin showing a few too many teeth, and a blanket tied around her shoulders like a cape. She looks almost superhero-esque, if superheroes were in fact murderous demons.

She's sitting on top of a bench, rather than on the bench seat, and observing Sarah with a fascinated look in her eyes. "Doin'?" she demands vigorously, creeping closer across the bench.

The blood is what first draws Sarah's attention. Her eyes widen, albeit slightly, and she's certain her voice is caught in her throat and she won't be able to answer. She opens her mouth and the only thing that leaves it at first is a small breath.

She loves drawing stories, but she's not sure what story Scout has.

"Drawing," she answers calmly, lifting up her sketch pad and showing it to Scout. The fountain in front of them has been drawn almost exactly the same. Sarah's caught between morbid curiosity and her innate self-preservation. "What were you doing?"

Scout doesn't take any notice of any hints at Sarah's apprehension. People have reacted much more violently to her presence, and people have reaction just as calm as Sarah appears to be.

Scout scoots closer to better examine Sarah's picture. She squints at it, and then squints at the fountain before she draws back, cocking her head to the side. "Drawing," she repeats, then looks from the fountain back to Sarah.

"Been watchin', yeah?" she nods. There's a bit of a smirk on her face--she knows probably that Sarah is referencing to the blood that is all over, but it's not Scout's fault, and she doesn't intend to answer if she doesn't want to, thanks very much. Well. She might.

Sarah remains still as Scout scoots closer. It doesn't seem like the other girl wants to hurt her, but one can never tell in these parts. Not to mention, there is... blood on her. But Sarah feels like any sudden movements might not be well-received, or maybe she should just stay put and talk to her like she'd talk to anybody.

She was asking for it when she put up that sign, drawing attention. "Watching's good. I like people watching. It's how I find my sketches," she says, risking a glance Scout's way.

"Would you like me to draw you?" Sarah asks. If she's answering questions it's only fair Scout answer a few of her own, right?

Scout has no real feelings about sudden movements, but she'd probably draw back--that's just a reaction that's been ingrained into her. She's all about self-preservation, in the end.

Scout blinks. "Watchin', watchin', waiting, yeah? Find 'em, find 'em found." She pauses and continues to examine the sketch. "Pretty," she says finally. "Pretty pretty penny yeah?"

She bounces back on her heels as she ponders Sarah's question. "No green," she says, gesturing to the sign. "No green nothin' no sad but like watchin', yeah? Can watch?" She doesn't have any money to pay for a sketch, not that she'd know what to do with such a thing once she actually had it. It'd probably get damaged somehow, or left in some dumpster that she'd have to quickly vacate.

Sarah smiles over at her. "Thanks," she says, glancing down at the sketch. It's pretty enough. She just isn't sure it's saying something. There's being able to draw things exactly as they are, and being able to create something that transcends it. Sarah might be too critical of herself and her work.

If it can even be called work.

"You don't have to pay my for it. I mean, it's cool if people do give me a dollar but if they don't, that's okay, too. I just like drawing, see?" She points over to the sheet of paper. Scout can do whatever she'd like with it once she's done, Sarah just likes the actual drawing.

"Watching's okay too, though. I'm Sarah," she adds, tapping the charcoal piece against the sheet of paper. "What's your name?"

Scout doesn't know jackshit about art. She just knows when she thinks things are pretty, and she thinks Sarah's art is pretty. But the approval of a tiny, crazy Rakasha isn't exactly the best way to feel good about your art.

Scout looks at the paper and then shrugs. "Draw, want, yeah," she says, crouching back to sit on her heels. "S'okay, yeah? Just watchin'."

She sits quietly for a minute, mumbling Sarah's name under her breath. And then, without any real warning. "Scout." It comes out almost harsher than she was expecting, and she shakes her head. "Scout," she repeats. "Scout Scout Scout. Said so, yeah? Called. Wasn't--was. Scout."

"Okay, you can just watch," she says, and she glances over at Scout as she keeps repeating Sarah's name. She's weird, and Sarah immediately feels bad for thinking it. She continues to draw, adding some of the shrubbery surrounding the fountain into her sketches.

Details are important. They make the bigger picture.

"Wasn't what?" she asks with a frown, after having jumped at the abrupt shift. "You didn't used to be Scout?"

Scout blinks. "Didn't, did, wasn't always," she mumbles. She's not too keen on revealing information like that. Part of it is that she's not too clear on everything herself.

"Named, yeah? By a. Mattie. Mine. Didn't. Don't know." She's struggling to remember. She's been in Chicago a long time, and hasn't seen a sign of Mattie in that time. She doesn't really know what happened before she met him. There are flashes of things, sure, but the last time there was more than flashes... well. It wasn't good.

"Mattie's a pretty name," Sarah says, and she continues to sketch but she's hardly paying attention to what she's actually sketching and paying more attention to Scout. She almost feels like she has to be careful about what she says, as if the wrong words could set something off, and at the same time, she wants to know what happened to her.

Something must have. Sarah knows better than to pry, but she'll keep talking for as long as Scout wants to talk to her.

Scout nods. "Was," she says. "Good. Was good, yeah? Helped. After. Run around together, around around around. Heart." Scout touches her ears, remembering the sound of his heart against her chest as she fell asleep in his arms.

"Woulda been dead, yeah? Dead dead dead long time ago, gone and forgotten. Don't know, cars and zoom and here, inna Rift." Scout lost him a long time, and while she can still remember some things, other things aren't so clear any more.

Scout turns to Sarah suddenly, drawing herself out of her memories. "Have 'un?" she asks. "Have a Mattie?" She doesn't know exactly what she means by that, but it's a question she can ask.
