[OOC: Lola's final post before I rift her for some time. I will be bringing her back again at some point - so not to worry! Also, this is open to backtagging as I know some people are on hiatus and stuff. And this isn't just for people who know her too! Anyone's welcome to meet Lola even if it'll be the first time for a while. Anywho - there are

"You okay there?" he asks, crouching down to the ground.
He is freakishly tall, Lola.
He will save the kitten if you need him to.

She turns at the voice with wide eyes, having not noticed him approach. Yes, you are most definitely freakishly tall Sam. Even more so to a tiny girl. "I am fine," she says with a nod.
And then, she points up at the tree. "There is a kitten stuck in the tree, see?" she frowns, "I cannot reach - can you help me? Give me a boost?"

Well then.
"I can do something better than that," Sam says, and he won't give her a boost since he still thinks that fall was kind of a nasty one, but he'll reach for the kitten without needing to climb up the tree so high because... it's Sam.
Once they're both back on the ground he'll hand it over to Lola. "Is it yours?"

She's actually not too bad at climbing trees, Sam. She came from the forties, no television and computers to play with back then. Climbing trees and being outside was generally the only thing to do for children. Well, that and she used to live in forest after all - so she got plenty of practice.
Nevertheless, she is happy to have the help and grins as he climbs up. She was wondering how she'd get down again. The drop from the closest branch to the ground is a long one for her and she wouldn't want to hurt the kitten.
"Thank you!" she squeals with delight. Yay for safe kitten! She takes a moment to snuggle the kitten, "Oh no - I just wanted to rescue it anyway," she tells him, "It makes a change to fighting monsters,"

He gives her a small grin as he hands her back the kitten.
"You're welcome. We're going to have to find its--"
The rest of what he was going to say is drowned out by what Lola says instead. "You fight monsters?" he asks. Sam does not approve. She is a tiny girl! She has no business fighting monsters. Rescuing kittens, yes. Fighting the big bad... no. Sorry, Lola. Sam's like that.

His shock at her words is never going to get old. The amount of times she's heard the disbelief could get almost annoying for her. But not really. These days, she's just amused. She's proud of what she does, even if adults don't understand it.
Besides, she used to be in a war. Monsters seem like a piece of cake compared to that.
"Of course I do," she says with a nod, "You do not think it is only for grown ups to do, surely?"
The kitten mews and Lola giggles, she's probably not helping in trying convince you, Sam. "I fight them because it is the right thing to do. And that is something I know best of,"

"I... do think it is only for grown-ups," Sam says, smiling slightly at the matter-of-fact way with which she says these things. It's a strange kind of smile, like there's some punchline he's maybe not aware of. He wouldn't have wanted to be involved in the hunting world at all if he'd had a choice when he was Lola's age.
And she does seem to be very young and more importantly, acts in an innocent sort of way that he wouldn't--want her to lose that.
He looks down at the kitten and scritches it behind the ears. "You know best of? You grew up fighting monsters?"
Sam briefly wonders if she's a Wanderer, or if she simply was born here and grew up with the ways of Chicago.
