[OOC: Happy Three Year Anniversary one and all! You know the drill except this time you'll likely only be able to comment in on one thread depending on your characters locations. However, there can be aftermath threads as well as multiple during threads. I imagine anyone snowed in at the Tower could have multiple threads with others at the Tower. Other than that, crack, angst, action, and more are available to add into your plots while your characters are trapped without electricity]
On the 30th of January, a snow storm created by an increase in Rift activities hits the city of Chicago. Within minutes, conditions are bad enough that it is impossible to see through the wind and the snow and the sleet. People are forced indoors to the nearest locations. Those who are already inside are stuck unless they want to risk frostbite and getting lost in the snow which would most certainly lead to death in these conditions. There is no telling what is out there, and through many points in the storm, it is difficult to see one's hand in front of one's face.
Within a few hours, the city is blanketed with a thick snow that blocks doors and entrances and windows from the outside world. The heaviness of this snow causes some weaker roofs to cave in under the pressure of it. It is several feet deep, and the weight and temperature of the snow shuts off electricity for the city. Transportation comes to a complete stand still. People can't open the doors to leave because of the weight of the snow pressing against the building.
People are trapped, and once it seems like there may be a break in the storm, it starts up again. On top of all this, the Rift activity is still high resulting in various effects throughout the city, throwing in more wanderers and monsters, affecting peoples moods, creating havoc throughout the city while people are trapped in their locations simply trying to wait it out and hoping that it will end before their food supplies run out. Many are bundled under piles of blankets and creating fires in the middle of rooms in an attempt to keep some warmth.
It isn't until February 2nd that the sun returns and the storm dissolves. By the end of the day, the snow has all melted away, and by evening, it seems to be a warm spring day in contrast to the harsh winter that had existed the day before. The Rift is nice enough to allow this spring day to last into the 3rd of February before the 4th returns to normal Chicago weather.
Happy Anniversary, Chicagoans!
