[backdated to early Christmas morning]

Dec 26, 2010 00:30

December 25th, very, very early morning. Just after midnight. All isn't quiet in Chicago, but then, when is it ever? There's people spilling out of bars and clubs, celebrating the coming of the day with a little too much alcohol and quite enough joy for the entire city. There are couples in Grant Park, taking a stroll to enjoy the freshly-fallen inches of snow or having silly snowball fights or just watching the moon glint off Lake Michigan. There are little kids in bed, fast asleep, and older kids excitedly waiting for sleep to come so they can all get up and open presents that much faster, while their parents are doing last-minute wrapping and stocking-stuffing so 'Santa' will come. All over town, a myriad families are celebrating. And some aren't; for some, it's just another day, albeit a day when most of the city shuts down.

It looks like just another typical Christmas early morning in Chicago.

Then a rift opens up, high in the sky, and out comes not a monster or a plague, but a sleigh pulled by reindeer carrying a rather bewildered, very rotund old man. He peers down at the city below him, then pulls his list out of his coat, checking it over. And then blinks, takes off his spectacles and rubs them on his beard, and looks at the list once more.

The names have definitely changed. He takes a moment, as the city passes under him, to turn around in his sleigh, pulling his bag of presents open a bit. Definitely new presents in there -- and many more than there had been before; the magical sack had been nearly empty, only the present for Mrs. Claus left.

He settles back down, making himself comfortable in his sleigh again and flicking the reins. He has a lot of work ahead of him tonight.

His first stop is the Kashtta Tower, which doesn't have a chimney -- at least not right away. But Santa finds a way. Perhaps a mysterious chimney appears. Who knows. This Santa is sneaky like ninja, and goes in and out of rooms as their inhabitants are sleeping (or out), leaving behind presents for everyone.

His first stop is Cassie's room, where he leaves a large photo album atop the bedside table. It is filled with pictures of her friends and family back home, so she can remember them properly.

Next up is Anya, who will awaken to find on her dresser a set of DVDs -- or, more apt, a couple of sets of DVDs. There's Pinky & the Brain, Looney Tunes, Duck Tales, and a few others, all tied up with elaborate bows.

Bones McCoy will find a present rather awkwardly wrapped on his bed, and when he opens it, he will definitely recognize the shirt that lies within. It's ratty and the black is fading a bit, obviously worn and loved, and across the front is printed "OUT OF THIS WORLD".

Jo will find her knife collection from home, neatly laid out in her room. Tucked into it are a few postcards her mother wrote to her during her life back home.

Capa's present is small, and could easily be lost among possessions if he had many in his room, but it is a small smileyface figurine that he might recognize.

Castiel will find the complete set of Chuck Shurley's Supernatural books, tied together with a red bow and put carefully into a chest that fits them perfectly.

On Miles's bedside table will sit a small box containing his old watch. The one he wore on the island, pre-rift.

Jim Kirk's present is equally small: a Kelvin salt shaker, tucked into a box that looks as though it was made for it.

Keilidh will wake to find her Sleet amulet hanging from her mirror, though when she attempts to use it, she will find that its magic has been curtailed. Still, it's a little something from home.

Parker's present is just a giant pimp roll of money. A stack of it. Sittin' on her dresser, completely innocuous.

Owen may not actually like his present too much, but left in his morgue will be a gigantic, human-sized teddy bear with a bow bigger than Owen's head around its neck. At its feet there will be a package addressed to Matoi which contains a few new sex toys. It may be best not to ask exactly what those toys are.

Michael Vaughn will find a ring box on his dresser, containing the ring he was going to use to propose to Sydney with.

Dan Faraday might find his present a little silly: a Dsi, complete with six games, among them Pokemon Heartgold, Golden Sun Dark Dawn, and My Boyfriend. At least he'll have something to take his mind off of life in Chicago!

Dylan will find a music box sitting on her dresser. But not just any music box. This one, without prompting, will play more than one song, and often Dylan might find that it will play the one she most wants to hear.

Jack O'Neill's present is an envelope containing photos of his family pre-rift. Including photos of his wife and son.

Phoebe will awaken to find nothing but a small card next to her journal. When she opens it, however, there is a small note -- 'Look out front. ~Santa' -- and the keys to a hot pink Lamborghini that's parked outside the Tower.

Shawn Spencer will find a similar card, except this time the keys are to an actual, legit wienermobile.

And speaking of sweet rides, Meggie will wake to find a pink and white bike, complete with training wheels and ribbons streaming from the handlebars, sitting in the middle of her room.

Xander, when he tears off all the wrapping paper, will be faced with his entire comic book set from home. The entire. Thing.

Hermione will find not a box but a cat in her room, a small bow tied around his neck. More specifically, her cat, Crookshanks, from back home. Hey, there are tons of cats in the Kashtta already.

When Kenzie opens her closet Christmas morning, she'll find the clothes pushed aside and a pink camo bow and arrow leaning against the back wall. Complete with arrows.

Nellie will wake to find a card with a key in it as well, with a note directing her down to the street and to her Corvette StingRay she had back home.

Bela will find her spirit board, neatly wrapped up, in the middle of her room as well. It may not pick up spirits exactly the same way as it had before, but it will at least be a little piece of home.

Debra Morgan's present is set neatly on her desk -- her iPod from home, complete with all the songs on it. There's also a nice set of earbuds and a wall charger for it.

Lola will find a box of 1940's bullets for her rifle the next time she is in her room, also wrapped neatly with a pretty bow.

Babel will return to her room from her nightly wanderings to find a plane ticket to a tropical country stuck in her mirror. It's one-way; evidently the Rift feels that she'll be able to find her own way back eventually.

Sailor Mercury will find, in her office, a music box containing pictures of her friends from home.

In Harry Potter's room, there is a large birdcage containing one fluffy white owl. A bow is awkwardly attached to the birdcage. Hedwig may or may not let Harry continue sleeping, once Santa leaves.

Charlie Wellman will find a card similar to Phoebe's and Shawn's, with a key to a brand new, shiny Toyota Camry in it. His note is slightly amended: 'Since your old one was falling apart. ~Santa'

Dean Winchester's present is not actually in his room. It is in the Kashtta's refrigerator with a note stating that it is for Dean and Dean only. It's a cheeseburger. If Dean turns the note around, he'll understand that this isn't just a cheeseburger sent to taunt him: 'This cheeseburger will negate your rift change for today, Dean,' it reads. 'Go on a cheeseburger bender. ~Santa'

Jack Harkness's present isn't actually in his room either. He will discover upon waking that he is wearing it: a very fancy, slinky evening gown. This is only one of many legitimate questions he may have, though, as Santa leaves him unconscious and trussed up in ribbon with a little tag that reads simply 'Jack' under the Christmas tree in the Kashtta's lobby. Santa wasn't entirely sure what to make of the fact that he pulled an unconscious man out of his present sack either, Jack.

Though he didn't have as many legitimate questions about that as he did when he pulled Mio's present out of his bag. Well, first there was a little card, stating simply 'Go up to the roof. ~Santa' But when he pulled the present out itself, it turned out to be an intelligent house that promptly settled itself down under his sleigh. Well, it had a chimney, so he was still able to get up to it and being on an actual roof actually makes it a little easier to take off to his next destination.

His next destination happens to be David's Aunt and Uncle's house, where a number of people that do not actually live there are staying. But that doesn't matter; Santa knows where they'll be, the better to deliver unto them their presents. Here, he leaves all of them under the tree, neatly labeled with everyone's names.

Anne and David's presents are individually wrapped, but they match: round-the-world tickets, so they can go together.

Martha Jones will find in her box a brand new, supershiny phone, all set up with her contacts and everything.

Robin Rice's is just in an envelope, as it is a letter. A very heartfelt letter from someone who read his book and wrote him because he found it inspiring, but never worked up the courage to send the letter because they thought it was a fictional book, rather than a nonfiction memoir.

Rachel Dawes's is also small, but that is because it is simply a note which reads, 'Your present is waiting for you at home. ~Santa' When she gets back home, she'll find, in a previously-unused room, her law library, which even includes a few of her own notebooks with her law notes in them.

And Wes will find a set of keys hanging from a branch of the tree, with another note instructing him to take a look in the driveway. There he will see a very sleek black bike with a small bow stuck to the windshield.

From there, Santa moves back downtown, to the Fuchizakis' apartment. Their cameras won't pick up anything, but when they get back from Japan, their presents will be waiting for them.

Iris's present will be set on the coffee table, neatly labeled and wrapped. Inside the box is a very cute outfit that fits her perfectly, and the back of the shirt is specifically tailored to have wing slits.

On the island between the living room and the kitchen sits Kaden's present. It's a large metal briefcase, locked tightly with combination locks -- the combination for which is in the card tucked under it. It contains an extensive, elaborate set of surgery tools, sterilized and sharp.

And in the corner of the living room, bobbing slightly on its antigravitational fields, is Lily's present: a Mr. Handy. In other words, a robot who will clean the house, tidy up as needed, do basic repairs, hold intelligent conversations, and even style her hair. It's tamper-proof, so Kaden can't dissemble it no matter how hard he tries.

Santa's next stop is another apartment, this time Josef's apartment. For Elizabeth, there's a carefully wrapped present on the kitchen counter. It's a videotape that her mother made for her when she was pregnant with her. This particular videotape was destroyed before Elizabeth ever got a chance to see it.

As for Josef, well. The rest of the apartment is filled with five-gallon buckets. And these five-gallon buckets? Are filled with coal.

The Crowbar is quiet when Santa's sleigh lands on it, and while it doesn't necessarily have a chimney, Santa still makes it down into the bar proper, as well as the attached living quarters.

So Sonny is going to wake up to find that a new karaoke system has been set up and installed in his bar. And that some of the snacks the bar sells have been torn open and munched on. Hey, Santa had to have something to sustain him while he fiddled with those electronics!

Lucky will wake to find an awkwardly-wrapped guitar-shaped present. And it is, indeed, a guitar. More specifically, it's his first guitar, and when he looks behind the strings, he'll find a picture of his sons glued there.

Lena Austin will find her present on her dresser: a memory box full of things that remind her of home.

John Callahan won't find his in his room, but in the Crowbar proper as well: a piano. But not just any piano. This one specifically belonged to his mother, and he'll be able to tell when he finds her initials carved into the piano bench.

Another place that is unexpectedly quiet is the Estates, where Santa quickly sets about distributing presents both sweet and nefarious for the various employees of Chicago's once-powerful crime syndicate. Among them are the presents for two more well-known of their employees:

Luka will find a blaster pistol from her homeworld, with a rechargeable battery pack as well as the means to recharge said pack.

And Kat will find a large tupperware with a bow on it, full of cookies. But not just any cookies. Once she takes a bite of one, she'll recognize the flavor...of poison. They're cookies like Katja used to make. Some of them are lethal. Some will give you violent allergic reactions. Some will just make you vaguely nauseous, while others will induce Kat's favorite: technicolor vomit. There are all types of cookies in there, all made with special Katja recipes.

Santa's night takes him to many more places as well, over the course of hours. Chicago is a large city, but Santa's used to taking on the world, so it's not too much of a sweat. Some denizens of Chicago may even spot him in the sky as he flies from place to place, though they will still never catch him in their homes.

At the Gauche he distributes all the necessary presents to the necessary demons, one of which is one Trinity Fasater, who will wake to find a veritable barful of alcohol residing in her kitchen. And possibly also her living room.

Fletcher will wake up in his apartment the next morning to find a very nice electric guitar in a beautiful blue color leaning against the mantlepiece, right next to an amp.

And the Bergmans will be a bit confounded to find that Leon seems to have an extra present in amongst the presents 'round the tree. It's a complete first-aid kit, and even has those little instant bleach-pens in it to get blood and who knows what else out of clothing.

In a very posh hotel suite at the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Chicago, Francis Barnam is going to wake up to find a package on the entertainment center. It contains a medikit from the 40th century, including the devices needed to fix and maintain the metal parts he obtained during the war he found himself in last time he was greenrifted.

In a nice suburban house a bit outside of downtown, the angel might wake with a start from his sleep on Jessi's couch to find an entire carton of his favorite crappy cigarettes on the mantlepiece.

Santa ventures into a sorority house on campus with a number of presents, including Molly's: a small bag of cocaine. While that might look like nothing compared to her usual stash, this one is special: it is neverending. As long as she has that bag, she will never run out of coke.

In a car parked somewhere in Chicago, Sunshine will wake up to find a myriad of tiny presents on her dashboard: a set of Lime Crime makeup, in every color she could possibly imagine needing.

And in an alley somewhere, a shivering Scout will get a thick, warm blanket draped over her.

All through the night, Santa delivers the contents of his magical sack to the denizens of Chicago, knowing that they will elicit joy and bittersweet tears and wonderful emotion for all that receive them. Anyone and everyone in the city gets a present. And when he's done, he climbs back into the sky in his sleigh, his ascent taking him across the moon.

"Merry Christmas to all!" he calls out, his voice echoing across the busy buildings of the city. "And to all a good night!"

And with that, there's a flash in the sky, and the Rift snaps him back up, sending him back to his home and Mrs. Claus.

[OOC: I AM SO SORRY THIS IS SO LATE IT TOO KME LIKE FIVE HOURS. There may have been Christmas dinner in the middle of it, though. But anyway!

I know not everyone is in this post, 'cause I wasn't sure what to get for those that didn't comment on the Santapost in the OOC comm, but feel free to tag in your character receiving a present if you have one for them, even if they weren't mentioned! Santa is everywhere in Chicago tonight, so he will be sure to hit up everyone!

Tag in with your characters reacting to their presents, comparing them, basically just have fun. Treat it as a party post! Go wild! Have fun! :D]
