Elena Gilbert can't believe this is happening. She fell through the Rift earlier today, immediately aware she was far, far away from Mystic Falls, Virginia. She simply wasn't aware how far. Not until she was stopped by a far-too-bubbly angel named Phoebe Donovan. Phoebe proceeded to explain in great detail what had happened. She fell through a Rift ( Read more... )

lol, not the best equipped. Story of Vaughn's life. :| stillaboyscout December 21 2010, 20:21:40 UTC
Vaughn's no superhero, and he's not exactly the best-equipped to fight the monster, seeing as he's left his gun in the Tower. But he is a pretty good distraction.

He chucks a tightly-packed snowball at the monster with wicked accuracy, trying to get it to leave this poor woman alone. He glances at her as he kneels to get more snow, not exactly sure what would be appropriate to say to her.

"How fast can you run?" he finally says, because he needs to weigh the odds that he'll have to go hand-to-hand with this monster. He hopes it doesn't come down to that.

Of all the things she could think of to derail the monster, snowballs had honestly been the last thing she could think of. Surprisingly, the sheer cold of it seems to paralyze the monster in place. At least for the time being.

"Uh..." Elena recovers quickly, stumbling back as the steps take her closer to Vaughn. "Pretty fast, what about you?"

She might be new in town, but she wouldn't leave Vaughn to fight the monster alone. With snowballs.

I had to. I JUST HAD TO. Because. He's Vaughn. stillaboyscout December 23 2010, 18:23:29 UTC
Vaughn doesn't even care what it does, so long as it stays away from her.

He also saw what you did there, Elena, and he's not buying it. Vaughn's a freaking Boy Scout, and he's not going to let you put yourself in danger in the middle of his rescue mission. So he's just going to ignore that last part and start giving you directions.

"Okay. I want you to run, as fast as you can, up the street these four blocks." He indicates the direction, pointing back the way she came from. "Do you know what the Kashtta Tower is?"

With any luck she'll run really fast and can send back-up before Vaughn has to fight the monster with his hands.

Elena whips her head around, following the direction he is pointing at. She closes her eyes momentarily, trying not to think about the fact she was led to that exact same Tower. If she'd just gone inside, she wouldn't have put herself and Vaughn in danger. But that seems to be a trend for her. She always puts people in danger.

She gives him a firm nod. "Yes, I was taken there earlier today. I'll be right back, okay? Please don't do anything."

She starts to run before he can answer her, as fast as her feet can take her. Elena bursts into the Tower and starts to shout for help.

Not even two minutes later there's a gun shot. Hello, Vaughn. It's Jo behind you with her favorite rifle. She runs over to him once the shot pierces right into the thing's forehead. Elena isn't far behind. "Vaughn! You okay?"

Vaughn tears his gaze away from the monster to look at her. "I won't do anything," he says sincerely. "I promise." But she's already gone, and the monster is advancing again, meaning he needs to throw another snowball at it. Sometimes he can't believe how stupid the things he does are.

The gun shot startles Vaughn, but it also comes with waves of relief. Thank god, the calvary's here, in the form of Jo. That's good.

"I'm good," he says. He glances at Elena. "That was fast," he said. "Good thing we sent you and not me." He looks back to Jo. "You didn't bring me a handgun or anything, did you?" he asks hopefully, privately swearing to himself that he is never going to leave the Kashtta without a weapon again.

"Sorry," Jo says with the shake of her head and a soft smirk. The rifle would look too big on someone as small as Jo, but she makes it work for her. "Too busy getting here fast as I could to make sure you were in one piece."

"What can I say? I work fast," Elena says to Vaughn in reply, attempting to catch her breath.

Her eyes are trained on the monster's corpse only a few feet away.

"What was that?" she asks, pointing at it. She was told of angels and demons and is still wrapping her head around it. She was not told of that.

Vaughn shrugs. "Ah, good thing you killed it, then," he nods, looking over the corpse. "Nice shot." You keep impressing him, Jo, though he realizes by now that he shouldn't really be so impressed every time you do something.

"And you did good work," he nods to Elena. "If anyone much slower than you had gone, I might have been dead." It's just a fact of life around these parts, and so he says it pretty frankly.

He looks again at the corpse, running his tongue over his teeth as he thinks. "To be totally honest, I'm not an expert when it comes to monsters," he admits. "But it is a monster, from what I can tell, probably dragged here by the Rift or something." He glances at Jo for confirmation of some kind.

Jo is still smirking his way, though there's evident relief at the fact they got there in time. It isn't that she doubts Vaughn's abilities, but he was unarmed. "Thanks. I try," she says, walking over to him and scanning the length of him, just to ensure he's okay.

Elena swallows roughly past the knot building in her throat and nods at Vaughn. "You're saying this... this happens often?" she asks, the knot in her throat traveling to her stomach and staying there, hard as a stone.

She asks, even if she doesn't need the answer. The way he says it, as if it's something so ordinary around these parts, alerts her to the fact.

Jo places a hand square at her hip. She shares a look with Vaughn before studying the corpse closely. "Looks somethin' close to a Wendigo, but not exactly. People aren't the only ones that fall through the Rift. Objects, animals, monsters. Anything goes. From all kinds of universes, so we might never know for sure."
