The look Ryo directs Shawn and his pursuer is quite exasperated. It's a situation he's been in before, when he first arrived in Chicago. Shawn has his sympathies. What Shawn doesn't have is 100% willingness to help on Ryo's part. He had an idea that he would try to keep his powers secret. Quite easy to do in Ayanagi considering the reverse cases were under wraps.
Here? Well, the only thing that's convincing him to throw caution in the wind is that the man's being pursued by an ogre, a misfortune in itself difficult to keep secret. He shuts his eyes, briefly, taking the final necessary measures to talk himself into the act. And then-
After a rather spectacular sounding fight (and spectacular looking, if Shawn cared to see-there were lasers involved, and a great deal of force coming from some robotic ghost-like thing that had emerged from Ryo), Ryo approaches the dumpster and says, warily, “You can come out now.”
Shawn opts not to watch. It's not that he isn't grateful for to this unexpected savoir, it's just that he is painfully, pitfully human, and not exactly a brave one at that. He tries to be, and can manage when he's facing something remotely normal from his world, but when it comes to something that is way over his paygrade, he knows that it's smarter to run first, ask questions later.
He does lift the lid a bit to try and see once things stop exploding, but he doesn't emerge completely until the man says it's safe to come out. He pushes the lid of the dumpster back, letting it fall back behind him, before turning to the man and reaching over the edge of the dumpster to wrap his arms around the man's neck.
"Dude. You have no idea how much this means to me."
Ryo freezes up, eyes going wide. A simple “thank you” would have sufficed, for him, not-
He pries Shawn's arms from around his neck. “You're welcome,” he says, his voice making a convincing attempt at distance. It does nothing to conceal his surprise and distaste. A thousand questions pop into his head, all relating to how in the world he attracted the attention of an ogre, and none of which he actually wants to ask. That might invite conversation, something he's wary of entering with this man. He seems a little too friendly for Ryo's tastes.
Oh, Ryo. Shawn never does the simple end of anything. It's just not the way his brain works.
He does let go when he's pried off, however, and then proceeds to climb out of the dumpster. He doesn't do it well -- his foot catches on the edge as he tries to gracefully hop off, and he lands in a less than graceful heap on the ground. He rebounds quickly, though, bouncing back onto his feet in order to dust himself off, then extend a hand.
This is not the person that is going to save the day, Shawn. In fact, Anne is a little bit like the cowardly lion and while she'd want to save her friends (not that she has many) from a terrible fate, there wouldn't be much she'd be able to do.
Anne is sort of staring at the ogre in a wide-eyed fashion. Her wings slide out of her back and she catches a glimpse of Shawn as he throws himself into the dumpster.
Thank God for demon speed. Anne lunges toward the alleyway and knocks on the lid of the dumpster.
"Hey! Shawn! Let me in before I become ogre chow!"
Shawn's head pops up from under the lid at the sound of the familiar voice, eyes wide in surprise. "Anne?"
His eyes then blink in surprise at the wings -- that's something he didn't expect -- but he's not blinking for long. He pushes the lid of the dumpster up further, before pushing to the side to give her room to climb in. "Quick, get in!"
They would discuss the whole wing thing once they were safely enclosed in metal and garbage.
Anne does not waste time. She throws herself into the dumpster next to Shawn with a loud thud, forcing her wings to slide back in so she isn't taking up too much space. The wings are uncomfortable enough as it is. "Thanks!"
"Oi, I've seen a lot of monsters here but never ogres. What are we going to do?" she whispers in a rushed voice. "If it gets his hands on this dumpster, we're done for."
"Shhhhhhhhhh." Shawn holds up a finger and presses it to her lips. "Shh. I'm listening."
Which he is. He can hear the thudding of the ogre somewhere around them, but he's having a hard time locating where it is. It would take another few minutes of listening, but he could probably do it if everyone is quiet.

That's not exactly reassuring, Anne.
