"A little like a healer, for the most part," she says. "I can make potions and things, to heal injuries or strengthen people, and things like that. It's kind of a spiritual practice, too. It's a lot of things, though mostly I turn things into other things."
She laughs a little at herself. It does sound a bit strange, when you put it like that, even if it's a potent discipline in the right hands. She's talking it down a little, but she doesn't want to seem too intimidating. Things are confusing and scary enough as it is right now, without Cassie becoming convinced that she's some kind of terrifying witch.
"Mm, I'm in the Kashtta," she says. "...So where you're from, nobody... has magic, or anything, at all?" She can't quite imagine living in a world like that. "Did they lose it? Did something bad happen?" She knows that alchemy was dying out in her world, when she was alive, but she doesn't want to believe that could happen to a place without something happening to avert the course of fate.
As for her home.... "Well, I... grew up in a small village, pretty much. There were only a few towns, and not much beyond that." She spreads her arms wide, meaning to indicate not much else in the world. "It was close to collapse, the whole world, but what was left was beautiful. There weren't so many people as here, but there were more animals, more flowers, I guess. And we had portals to other worlds, too."
