I can't let myself regret such selfishness.

Danny Smalls wrote an entry to people he knows. He said he was leaving, and he is. He's walking out the front doors of the Kashtta without anything but the wallet in his pocket. There's something to be said about having nothing, no possessions, no anything. It's freeing, isn't it? Nothing tying him down. Nothing to care about. He's not planning on ( Read more... )

Enjoy your ghost, Xander.

It's floating down through the ceiling ahead of you.

...you may also, if you choose, enjoy the rapid thump-thump-thump from the direction of the stairwell, getting louder as it comes.

Xander does not enjoy his ghost. He doesn't know what it is even, but it makes him let out a yelp.

There is something floating through the ceiling.

And there's the--

There is definite thumping coming from the stairwell.

"That's... not a good sound." He isn't against talking to himself, especially when he's freaking out. "My creepy senses are tingling."

This would be the best time to run away, but Xander has dealt with the creepy before. It's usually in the form of a vampire or demon, but that's no reason to go running and hide. He remembers that he used to be kinda good at dealing with the creepy. He took out a whole zombie gang!

Xander steps forward. Everything is absolutely normal.

Thump thump thump, goes the noise. Thump thump thump thumpa thumpa thumpa THUMPATHUMPATHUMPADMITRI.

...TO THE FACE.

Sort of. She does manage to catch herself on the corner of the hall and skid to avoid any actual collision, but it's a near thing, and she doesn't seem to mind, as she's grinning ear to ear.

"You see that?" she says - Xander is looking at the ghost, she is looking at the ghost, and it's a good a reason as any to make friends on the spot. "That's not normal. I mean even for Chicago, that's not normal."

The fact that she's grinning ear to ear might temper that pronouncement, of course.

Xander screams. Sorry, he lets out a manly shriek when there's a sudden person around the corner.

This is the part where he saves face.

"Ah...ha! Scared you, didn't I?"

Yeah, it's not working out well for him.

"There is definite seeing of the... swirly... that in the air. I was thinking that it's not exactly the most normal of-" He scratches the back of his head and makes a vague motion to the swirly... thing. "What is it?"

Dmitri raises an eyebrow at him, then bops up to punch him on the shoulder. It's not an incredibly hard punch - she's not an angel, so far as bast physiology goes - but it's got some heft to it.

"You're a regular Hitchcock, Wilhelm," she says, then turns back to the ghost. "I don't know. I could make something up, but do I look British and bespectacled? It went through the floor. I chased it."

At the moment, it's drifting listlessly in the direction of the floor... and down the hall. She runs after it, though she doesn't get close enough to touch it.

"Almost looks human, don't it?"

"Ow. Hey." Xander rubs the shoulder that she hit.

She didn't have to punch hard. It's-- He's delicate! But he's also used to people smacking him for the things that he says. It didn't really hurt, but he likes to exaggerate.

"I know I scared you, but there's no need for violence," he says with a smirk. Hey, she used a reference that he's well familiar with. "Or I'll call down my birds on you next."

He laughs a little at the part about the British and bespectacled. It reminds him of someone. Obviously. Someone that he misses, but Xander doesn't really linger on those feelings. "You don't. You're kinda missing the tweed too, but that might be a Giles-y thing."

Xander could continue on his way to find Phoebe, but he thinks chasing the freaky stuff with this stranger is a better idea. It reminds him of Sunnydale in a weird way. He follows her and the whatever-it-is down the hall.

"Does it? Cause I've seen non-humans that looked much more human than..." He stops and tilts his head. "Oh. I see it. The curves of the-- The curves. ( ... )

Dmitri laughs. "Don't want that," she says, re: birds. "Couldn't beat 'em. I'd have to join them."

Your new friend actually does turn into a bird, Xander.

"I'm missing a long brown coat, but I don't suppose I'd look that much worse in tweed. Though I dunno. If you ever meet a guy who can really pull off the tweed look, odds are he's a keeper."

She approaches it again, and again it seems to not notice.

"Smoke in the shape of a person," she says. "Gotta wonder why it's pulling off that."

"Join them? What? Flap your arms hard enough, and you soar into the sky? I wish I could do that."

He doesn't actually wish that. He would look ridiculous.

"Yeah, pulling off tweed is kind of debatable. I know someone... knew someone who I don't think could pull off wearing anything else." Xander does not like to think of Giles wearing anything other than the tweed.

He approaches it too. It's easier to be brave when he's not the only one around, but it's certainly not a requirement. If it was, he wouldn't have been able to handle those zombies.

"Ya got me," Xander says with a shrug, shaking his head as he runs a hand through his hair. "Hey, d'you think that this is one of those ghosts that people've been talking about? Kept imagining Casper since they're supposed to be friendly."
