you can't take that away from me

Since the Conrad explosion, one Rusty Hunt has been missing from Chicago. Well, honestly he hasn't been missing. The Rani knows exactly where he is. He's been being taken care of just as well as the other creatures she snagged. Really, it's all the same to her. The brain structures of the Gallifreyanoids on this planet are just as similar to her ( Read more... )

Martha Jones has not been sleeping well. When she gets exhausted enough, she heads into her room to sleep for as long as her mind will let her.

She leans down to pull out the alcohol bottle from under her bed when she's greeted with the sight of a girl under her bed.

Martha screams. She rarely ever screams or startles, but there's no possible way to react to someone lying unexpectedly under a bed.

"What are you doing?"

"What are you doing?" Matoi asks, her eyes slowly turning red as she regards Martha. First it's yellow, then it's decidedly orange, but they settle on red. Because obviously, it's much more important to know what Martha's doing in her own room.

It's always more important to ask questions than to answer them. She doesn't have to be nice.

"I was going to get something from under my bed when I ran into a girl instead," Martha says, and she's a little distracted by those eyes. "A girl with eyes that change color. Apparently."

She pulls back.

"Mind coming out from under there?"

Because if she does mind, Martha is more willing to attempt to physically pull her out.

"There's no liquor under here," Matoi says vaguely, refusing to come out from under the bed.

That might be because she raided the entire building for alcohol, in order to replenish Owen's stash. But that was like, yesterday. There's certainly no alcohol, though. Martha will have to deal.

As for minding coming out... well, she doesn't feel like answering that. If Martha wants to try and deal with it, she can try. Extracting Matoi seems far easier than it actually is, though.

Martha tenses at this announcement.

"There should be liquor under here."

IS MARTHA GONNA HAVE TO CHOKE A BITCH?

When Matoi doesn't respond to the other question, which really wasn't a question at all but a firm request, she reaches under the bed to try to grab hold of her to pull her out herself.

"Nope. None," Matoi says, still staring at Martha from under the bed. Then she pulls back, compressing so that Martha can't quite reach her. Because that just wouldn't do. She can't be dragged out from under the bed unless she wants to be.

This strange woman will not manhandle her.

This is absolutely one of the most ridiculous situations that Martha has had to deal with in the last month. It's not a ridiculous in a laughable way, but ridiculous in the absolutely frustrating way.

"Get out from under my bed," Martha says, and she doesn't lose her temper easily, but she hasn't exactly been at her most stable lately. "Now."

It is an order.

Last time Matoi checked, Martha Jones is neither Captain Jack Harkness nor is he Owen Harper. Because of this, she is not going to listen to Martha's orders.

Instead, she's going to send a text to her journal because it's been far too long since she's talked to Owen. (Read: Maybe 3 minutes.)

She taps away at her cellphone, humming happily to herself. Martha can do all that annoyed stuff over there.

Martha is neither, but she would like for her bed to be her own again. She would also like her alcohol to be back where it should belong, under her bed.

"You've got to be kidding me," she murmurs, frustration mounting.

She crawls under the bed to try to grab hold of her and wrestle her out.

Yes, this is the most ridiculous situation that she's had to face this month.

The moment Martha has successfully gotten under the bed, Matoi is standing behind her, blinking, her cell phone still in her hand as she texts her journal. "That can't be comfortable," she remarks, staring at the screen. Martha is not going to be getting her alcohol back. That would be difficult, as it has already been taken care of in a most satisfactory manner.

Also known as it's in Owen's belly.

Martha locks her jaw. The frustration is getting difficult to manage. On an ordinary day, she might be more stable emotionally about her reactions to all this. However, after this month, stable is not exactly how to describe her.

"No, actually. It's quite comfortable."

She is lying through her teeth, of course. Martha crawls out from under the bed, but she doesn't stand, simply sits with her back pressed up against the mattress.

"Why are you doing this?"

"Why am I doing what?" Matoi asks with a smile. It seems sweet enough, until you overthink it, and then it's got a nasty edge to it. She's not even going to start with Martha's lie. She's not worried about that in the slightest.

To be entirely honest, she's not that worried about Martha. She's not Owen, to be completely frank.

So she'll have some fun, without annoying the building, and therefore, Owen.

Martha decides that it's impossible to talk to this person, and she won't do it any more. She sits pressed up against the bed still, arms folded across her chest. There's so much rage. There's more rage than there should be in this situation, but stable--

Stability.

She's been missing that lately.

There's that pressing urge to take out her gun and aim it at the girl to see if that has any effect, maybe even press it into her skin a little, and what-- What is she even coming to that she's thinking about this?

Matoi stares at Martha a bit more. Silence is something she's always been able to handle. Quiet watching. It's what she's best at. Just back in the shadows. Always there.

She doesn't move back. She doesn't surrender the room to Martha. She just watches her, wondering if she should press more. She's certainly not running.

Matoi is never the first one to run, unless she needs to be.
