Violently shunned, Quietly stunned, But I'm alright

Ever since Martha had brought Ashley to the Kashtta Tower, Ashley's day had fallen into a routine. Her kata in the morning, unwilling to go for a run in the still dusky light of dawn. A quick weapons check and then breakfast. It was more disciplined than she had been in the last few years, and only now, trapped in Chicago, did she realise how much she'd let go.

Mornings were spent checking places in the city, staying to the larger streets and unwilling to stray into alleys and darker buildings. Not when ammunition was limited and she had no back up. She needed to check with Martha, look into what official patrols there were and get in on it. If there were. She'd get right to that. When things felt right in her head again.

For two days she'd been off. A nagging headache, dry throat, and Ashley was beginning to believe she was developing a cold. In a strange place, without her mom's medical knowledge and sick. It was the last thing she needed.

She was just outside the Tower when dizziness swept over Ashley. Gripping the wall, she gasped for a breath. Nothing felt right, the entire world seeming to slide to the side as if she were on a carousel. One that was suddenly turning upside down.

And it wasn't the only thing going places it shouldn't.

Her teeth were a not so subtle change, sharp and jagged from the points, a predator's mouth, and her eyes were a reddish brown. More subtle changes affected her bone structure, yet when her hand went to feel her face, Ashley jabbed herself with the sharp, spike like nails that extended from her fingers.

She shrieked, stunned by the sudden change that she knew all too well, only not in herself. Even without seeing herself, she knew this is what Tesla looked like. His real face.

The face of a vampire.
