Robin Rice stumbled on a few CLF members trying to deface property with more of their hate speech. He has no weapons andno idea how to fight. One of these is an Elemental of some sort. Apparently, he's decided to tell them to stop, instead of calling the police. He's saying a lot that sounds good about why they should stop. They seem too angry to

She hadn't set out to stay too late, but it's one of those nights where sleep doesn't come. She's used to those nights, except in the past she'd have had plenty to occupy her time with. There wouldn't have been enough time to go through all the paperwork that would be piled up on her desk at the DA's office.
She spots Martha and doesn't consider just walking on by, however late it is.
It's her good friend, and Rachel always enjoys talking to her. She looks busy, and Rachel is not entirely sure with what as she approaches.
Clearing her throat to signal her arrival, she stuffs her hands in her pockets. "An inch taller and I believe you might have secured it already." Whatever it is.

"Honestly, I've had this problem ever since I could remember, except when I was seven. When I was seven, I was the tallest girl in my class," she says with a fond smile as though she's taking a moment to actually remember. "That was the golden year."
She isn't being at all serious, of course.
"I think I could get it if I jump, but if this turns out to be a rather large piece of trash, I'll look rather silly."
Reply
"I could help you with it if you'd like?"
After a moment of consideration, she adds with a bit of teasing, "If it turns out to be trash, I promise not to tell."
She can keep a secret surprisingly well, or so the narration has heard.

She jumps for the object and lands solidly on her feet, on the grass behind it.
"Maybe you ought to try this time," Martha says, turning around. "I can hold the bench to keep it more stable. If it is trash, I'm sorry for all the complication over... something that's worthless, but you never quite know until you have a better look."
She holds the back of it with both of her hands. It's the back part of the bench that seems to be wobbly. The rest is attached firmly to the ground.

"I can understand how curiosity kills," Rachel tells her, stepping up on the bench. "It would annoy me to no end as well, if I didn't see what it was and couldn't end up reaching."
She'd have to know, even if it does end up being something utterly useless. At least then there'd be the knowing.
Rachel leans on tiptoes, and manages to reach up the branch. When she hops back down, she's holding a thick cloak in her arms, lifting it up for Martha to inspect. "Does it look familiar to you?"
She never did ask if Martha was simply looking for something.

She reaches for it, twisting it around.
"It's the... invisibility cloak," she says, and then smiles brightly. "It's as if the entire world is simply falling through the Rift lately! It's--"
She looks at Rachel, remembering that she isn't alone with her glee at the moment. Martha clears her throat, looking a bit embarrassed. "It's an object from this popular book series. It... can make you go invisible. It's either the real thing or a replica, but there's only one way to find out."
Martha slides it over her head and promptly seems to disappear.

Then again, Rachel's knowledge about Harry Potter is sorely lacking, as the books did not exist in her universe.
"Invisibility cloak?" Rachel echoes after her, clearly dubious about this whole thing. Practicality, ahoy! "You don't actually mean to say it--"
Rachel's eyes widen when Martha proceeds to become invisible. She blinks once, and again, a hand darting out to ensure Martha is still there.
Surely enough, she's holding onto a shoulder.
"... That is..." Rachel breathes out, unable to finish her sentence.

The series of books have always been close to her heart, but especially since the books literally saved the world when they visited Shakespeare.
Her smile widens at Rachel's reaction. It's possible that it makes her even more gleeful. It is rather wonderful to share her glee with another person, and the cloak is not a sentient being so she doesn't have to worry about suppressing it.
"It's brilliant, isn't it?" Martha pulls the invisibility cloak down until her head is the only thing showing. "You should try it out."

She's pragmatic, Rachel. She believes in facts, not magic, except--what else explains the fact Martha's whole body has disappeared?
Rachel smiles slightly at her friend again. "Think you could part with it long enough?" she asks, a teasing lilt returning to her voice. Her eyes continue to look at the thing as if she can't quite believe it yet.
She will not really forget Martha's glee about this, not for a long time coming. It's refreshing to see her like this, and entirely endearing.

It doesn't mean she still doesn't live for the moments that science can't explain.
"I think I can manage. Yeah. It'll be difficult, but I can handle it." She laughs softly, pulling the cloak off and holding it out to Rachel. "It's really fun. I have half a mind to use it to scare people in the lobby."

Hell, the fact she's here, in Chicago, due to the tearing of the fabric in space and time, should already be proof enough there are things beyond explanation through pragmatism.
It still doesn't always settle in quickly. She needs evidence, she needs to link everything together, and finally, Rachel reaches for the cloak.
"Now I'm trying to picture the archangels reaction to seeing nothing but your head," Rachel murmurs with a small smile, taking a breath and pulling the cloak over her shoulders.
Surely enough, from the shoulders down it's as if there's nothing but air. "Amazing," she thinks she breathes out. "Who do you think this could have belonged to, did you say?" After short consideration, she adds, "In the wrong hands it would be a dangerous possession."

"I'd have to have someone there taking pictures, too. We could put it in an end of the year slide show. Hurray, we survived another year! Here are some funny pictures."
Her smile brightens when Rachel slides the cloak on.
"Harry... Potter. He's here now actually. His best friend is with him," she explains. "There are probably other invisibility cloaks out there, but this one looks exactly like I imagine the one from the book to look. I'd like to give it to him as I know it has special meaning to him, but I'd rather he not find out about being in a famous book series, until he has to."
She pauses, thinking about the people that she's encountered here. "You're right. If I can't give it to him, I'll have to lock it up somewhere. It's far too powerful to let anyone get a hold of it."

It'd give it a sense of familiarity again. It'd remind those that are there and still frightened it's a place worth fighting for, a place worth holding on to.
"Is he?" Rachel asks, lifting her head. Her eyes have been trained on the lower half of her body, which doesn't look like it's there. It's surreal and fascinating and slightly insane. "I... agree with him not needing to know that. He has enough to deal with in terms of falling through a rift. The rest is unnecessary, in my opinion."
Rachel wrinkles her nose as she finally takes the cloak off. She dusts it off a bit, before handing it back to Martha, still slightly in awe.
"Agreed. Hopefully, we can give it back to him, particularly if it means something. Think he's awake?"

She is staring at the lack of Rachel!body as well. It is fascinating, and she still feels a bit giddy over the discovery.
"Exactly," Martha says, nodding, reaching out, and poking her in the stomach. She gives an apologetic shrug. "Sorry. Couldn't help myself. But yes, there's no need for him to struggle with that as well."
She takes the cloak back in her hands, folding it as neatly as she can.
"He may be. It wouldn't hurt to try at any rate," Martha says; her expression is thoughtful. "Would it be entirely too odd to leave it in front of his door, knock, and run?"
