"I am sure," Martha says with what she hopes is a reassuring smile. "I've had a broken arm a few times before. Here in Chicago. It'll hurt, but nothing that I can't manage.

She walks beside her. The limp isn't pronounced as it was when she stepped out of that alley.

Martha wonders how many monster corpses appear over the city in the course of a day. It must be astounding if anyone ever bothered counting.

The smile on Martha's face brightens at the vehemence of Rachel's exclamation.

"I figure I might as well rest," she says with a small smile. "I've had to spend a lot of time there lately. A lot of hotel business has come up."

Martha looks at Rachel's face and then faces forward as they walk.

"I have been well. Just busy. The hotel business has been busier than ever. I tell you I never thought in a million years that I'd be running anything. Not even a hospital, but then I had this hotel plopped in my lap," she says, shaking her head. "What about you? How have you been? I'm afraid that I really haven't had much time since the wedding to keep track of everyone and everything. I feel a bit disconnected."

Rachel notices the limp is not as pronounced. She wonders if by the time they arrive to the Conrad there will be nary a trace Martha was hurt.

It still boggles her sometimes, the power of the Rift and how drastically it can alter the course of their lives to the point of no return.

"All right," she answers with a bit of a sigh and a smile. "I believe you."

She knows Martha Jones is a woman to be reckoned with. "It has been busier this time of year, hasn't it?" Rachel agrees with a small nod. "I don't mind the busy part, and we've seemed to manage well for the most part."

At Martha's question of how she has been, Rachel pauses.

Martha is her dear friend, and yet Rachel can't find it in her to go into detail. The last thing she wants to do.

"I've been better," she admits, but with a reassuring smile she adds, "I've also been worse. You know what living here is like day-to-day. And no one can blame you for taking time away from things. You're a newlywed. One can't keep track of everything."

Martha's healing powers are fast acting. It's likely that the limp will be gone entirely by the time they get back, and the arm will nearly be healed.

There's no questioning how much her healing powers have changed her. Her future is directly affected by it as well. Not only her future but the future of others as well. It's the most terrifying part of her ability. She gets to play god as Robin once told her.

"Good," Martha says with a small smile. She would hate for her friend to be so concerned when it's only skin and bones that will mend relatively soon. "I wouldn't lie to you, I promise."

She nods. It certainly has been a busy time of year. "Yeah, nothing we can't handle. It does make keeping in touch rather difficult at times, but I'm sure it will slow down again. I think. I suppose as the business owner... I really shouldn't want it to slow down soon."

Martha understands. She doesn't know that Rachel is holding back details, but she won't question it. If Rachel wants to talk about it, Martha's certain that she will. All Martha can do is make herself available, in case.

"I suppose that's how it is in Chicago. You can practically always say that you've been worse. And it's true. It doesn't quite lessen what we're going through now, but it does put it into perspective, I suppose," Martha says and then laughs softly, glancing at the ring on her finger. "Newlywed. Still getting used to that."
