Well, whatever thinking it is that Dani Reese has to do, surely she can tolerate the presence of one Charlie Crews.

Either way, it's the self-same Charlie Crews who is now finding himself a spot to sit next to his partner.

She doesn't answer right away - maybe because she's still mentally processing.

But after another second, she closes the book.

"I don't know. It's boring anyway."

"Did you read the back flap before you picked it up? Sometimes that helps to figure out whether or not a book'll be boring before you actually start reading it. Sometimes it doesn't work, though. Well, I guess it'd still help a little. The blurbs are even less helpful. Too many exclamation points."

A beat.

"How're you feeling?"

"Guess I didn't think that far ahead," she admits, sparing another glance for the book's cover.

"Good. Better."

She doesn't want to get into the specifics - or what led her to do what she did - but it goes without saying that having him there helped. And she's really hoping it can keep going without saying, because she's not a fan of saying much in the way of thanks.

"You been up to anything?"

"Not really," Crews admits, shrugging his shoulders.

"Mostly exploring as much of Chicago as I can within a couple of blocks of the hotel. I don't really like staying inside for too long, you know that. It gets small."

"You been to the park at all?" Reese asks.

"It's big. Open. You'd probably like it. I've been running there," she adds, even though she's pretty sure he's heard her get up early each morning to head out - and sometimes in the middle of the night. Running's been good therapy. It clears her head, helps her think things out.
