I'm pretty flip, and I'm losing grip...

Evenings in Chicago are often a busy time, as people rush home and others rush out.

Trinity McFasater has found a new place to hang. She's stretched out on one of the couches at the Luna, her feet up in the air, giggling as she grasps her drink and begins to sing--loudly. "JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL, LIVIN' IN A LONELY WOOOOOOOOORLD ( Read more... )

Reese has ducked under an overhang to wait out the worst part of the storm.

Crews would be out in it, she thinks, just in time to witness a familiar face walk by.

"You heading anywhere in particular?" she calls out.

Vaughn looks up quickly, getting rain in his eyes in the process. He blinks a few times, then smiles. Familiar faces speaking to him are a good thing.

"Not in particular, no," he shakes his head. "Just... walking I guess."

"And getting drenched while doing it," she points out.

"Or are you not really bothered by that sort of thing?"

Vaughn shrugs sheepishly. "Not too much, no," he says. "It's good for thinking." He looks back at her. "What are you doing out?" he asks. "Headed some place in particular?" Because Lord only knows he's not going anywhere in particular, and it would be nice to be going somewhere for once.

"I was planning on heading back to the hotel," she admits.

Though the Conrad is getting kind of boring, and she could use a change of scenery other than the room she shares with Crews.

All of that may or may not be coming across in her tone of voice.

Vaughn gets the hint. He's just not sure how to verbalize it.

"Well, if you were interested... I mean. There's this bar. Just for one drink, I promise. This isn't--" He stops himself before things get more awkward. "You just look like some time out of the hotel would be good for you," he finishes lamely.

She's trying to stay away from drinks, and her relapse the other week didn't exactly help matters.

But there are alternatives to alcohol, most of which can be found in the bar.

"I think you're probably right about that," Reese admits.

Vaughn nods, and smiles encouragingly at her. "Good," he says. "There's this place not to far from here. I don't have an umbrella, but if we run you shouldn't get too wet. It's just up the street." He points ahead of them, where the glowing lights of a bar advertise the alcohol they sell inside. "It's nothing too fancy, but I think it'll do. If not, there are other places to go."

"Don't worry about it," Reese reassures him. "I'm not exactly going to judge you based on location choice."

She peers out from underneath the building's overhang and then decides to just go ahead and make a run for it.

"Last one pays," she says, and makes a mad dash for the bar.

Vaughn grins. "Well that's good. I'd hate to be judged on the location choice. Like I said, it's not THAT of a place."

And then she runs, and he stares after her, confused. "I intended to pay anyway!" he calls after her, but he runs anyway, because getting out of the wet is a good thing.

She shoots a grin back over her shoulder, blinking water out of her eyes.

Either way, he won't have much to pay for, but she could always use the exercise, and jogging around the park every day is helping.

She stops midway, holding her arms out on either side and lifting her face up to the sky.

Vaughn catches up to her and gives her a strange look. "I thought the objective was to avoid getting wet as much as possible," he tells her. "Come on, you're gonna get soaked." And Vaughn doesn't want her to get soaked and have it be all his fault. He's kind of a freak like that.

She's having a Zen moment, she realizes. She's having a Zen moment, there in the rain, just like Crews would.

It's that, among other things, that causes her to snap back out of it and continue on her way towards the bar.

Vaughn blinks at her, standing still for a moment, watching her as she continues. Then he runs to catch up with her. That was... very weird. And now he's concerned.

"Hey," he says, catching up to her. "Are you okay? You just..." He's not sure what to say, but he's worried about her now. "You seem a little out of it," he finishes lamely.

Reese stops in her tracks, and then sighs. It's not like she'd go as far as to appear embarrassed, but she still wants to explain.

"Sorry," she murmurs. "It's just - you ever not know you needed to do something for yourself right until the moment where you went and did it?"

Vaughn looks at her oddly. "No?" he says. "Well. Maybe. I'm not sure." He pauses. "Is that what just happened there, then?"

No, Captain Obvious. She's just asking that question. Sometimes Vaughn is dumb.
