monsters still in our time

In Grant Park, somewhere far from the crucifixion site, far enough that you can't even see the yellow police tape, Bean is sitting at a table. On and beneath the table are boxes and boxes of T-shirts, in all different sizes and colors. All of them have the phrase "Wanderer? Fine by me" printed in bold letters on the fronts. Bean herself is wearing ( Read more... )

It's one of her few free afternoons, and she's found a chocolatier's with fantastic hot cocoa. Chocolate? Is awesome. So Eilir is in an exceptional mood when she spies Bean and hertable strewn with brightly colored t-shirts. She walks over to investigate, and grins when she reads the printing.
The girl in pink seems harmless enough, and going by the bold typeface, Eilir's inclined to let her guard down. The chocolate high might be influencing too.

{"Brazen of you, but I approve. You aren't out here alone are you? Brass goes a long way, but not if someone wants to take their prejudices out on you."} Eilir considers putting the cocoa down to feign benign communication, or dig for her notebook, but it's too good, and the telepathy's easier.

"Eep!" Bean's eyes widen and she looks around, startled. Did she just hear a voice inside her head? Is she hearing voices now? Bean often talks to herself to work ideas out, but herself doesn't typically answer back. Never mind that the voice she heard was an unfamiliar one.

She looks around and spots the woman standing nearby and gives her a suspicious look. She leans toward her conspiratorially and then whispers,

"Did you hear that?"

Eilir grins. The girl's innocence is endearing, though Eilir didn't intend to startle her. She leans on the table with her elbows, and smiles at Bean over the rim of her cup. {"Nope, can't hear a thing,"} she says, and winks slowly. {"Though I'm sure you did. Lovely weather for business, eh?"}

Bean's eyes widen. Telepathy, it's gotta be! It's like something right out of X-Men!

"You're talking to me in my head, aren't you?" Bean whispers, trying to contain her excitement. A real telepath! Bean wonders what she'll do if this woman turns out to be an X-Man. She did already meet Bruce Wayne. And then suddenly the concept of Marvel and DC characters in the same real universe hits her.

Awesome.

{"Aye, that I am. It's a tad more science fiction than I'm used to, but it's useful, and I'd rather not neglect my drink. It has chocolate in it. If Chicago has one thing worth the trouble, it's the regular supply of chocolate and coffee."} Eilir is amused. Astrid would have reacted much the same if either of them had spontaneously developed superpowers back home. Though Astrid tended to be more crazy and intense about such things.

Eilir eyes the table. The grey-blue t-shirt is attractive. She could wear it on the archery-range, and no one would glance twice. {"I'll have one of the blue-grey ones. Size medium."}

She's still a little concerned about Bean being alone. She doesn't think to ask if Bean has other precautions in place. {"If I return with more hot chocolate, would you mind me staying by to make sure nothing untoward comes your way?"}

"That--that is so awesome! I've always sort of wanted to get bitten by something and develop superpowers." Not like abjurer powers, which just seem so natural to her. Telekinesis! Eye beams! The power of flight! "And you're totally right, I mean, if it's chocolate it's like blasphemy or something to neglect it. Especially if it's still hot!"

She bounces a little in the chair, grinning ear to ear. "Alright, blue-grey medium!" She plucks one out and offers it to the her.

"If you want to help, that'd be great! I mean, if you want to of course."

Hot chocolate and a telepathic bodyguard? This is the best day of Bean's life.
