[OOC: This happens after
this. This is a party thread. Worst party thread ever. Post in your characters' reactions to the cross or have your character respond to another characters. Even if it's reactions to the news story on it or hearing about it. Also, feel free to update character journals about this. I imagine the cross won't be displayed for long so try to limit how many of your characters actually see it in person to what is logical. The cement and nails will make it difficult to remove the cross and body for at least a couple hours. You can assume that the police (etc) have found her by the time that this your character posts in a reaction.]
At 4am in Chicago's Grant Park, Randall Flagg had had the area cleared of policemen so that no patrols would go through all morning to interrupt the work that had to be done. A semi truck is parked on a nearby road. Several men work together to carry a large cross to the center of the park where a hole has been dug beside a tree, sinking the cross into the hole. They tie the cross against the tree with
3-Strand Nylon Rope while the rest of the men pour buckets of quick-dry cement into the deep hole. They make as little noise as possible wiping sweat and blood (that's not their own) from their foreheads.
At 6am, light begins to filter throughout the park. There aren't enough trees to block the light for long. The sunshine illuminates the cross and reveals the naked corpse crucified to it. Her legs are sticking in odd angles, quite obviously broken. She has been nailed to the cross by her wrists and feet. Her bare skin is littered with bruises and cuts. Blood has been dripping down the cross for several hours as it has stained the sides of it and left puddles in the grass below. Wings lie limply against her shoulders. She is covered in filth, excrement, bruises, and blood, but otherwise completely naked.
If someone familiar with her were to look close enough, they'd recognize the corpse as Bambi Dalton (a well known member of the Organization). She has been slain and displayed for the world to see.
