As it turns out, the pier-- Navy Pier-- is not far from the Conrad. But Jonathan has no particular desire to see the sights down that way; call it interdimensional overload, but he'd like someplace that can guarantee a little less by way of tourism and more by way of peace and quiet.

So, in keeping with the spirit of things, he has elected to ... wander.

He has his briefcase with him, the mysteriously manifesting notebook inside, on the off chance that Miss Dawes should get any funny ideas about looking through his things. His entire look is overwhelmingly conventional; he might almost be a businessman on his way home from a long and normal day's work.

Except that by the time he finds Grant Park and settles on a bench, the sun is sinking over the tops of the buildings and it is decidedly strange to see a man in professional attire sitting with such attentive composure. Almost as if he were waiting for something.
