Faith with a book in her hands is a rare sight, but today she's sitting, with a small pile of them, on a bench in Grant Park. She's sort of thinking about trying to get official paperwork and stuff, in this world, so that she can maybe make a little money doing what she's best at - beating on people. Or teaching other people to do so, failing ( Read more... )

Dean has the afternoon off, and since he's pretty much done every possible fix-up to the Impala already this summer, right now he's taking it easy. He's walking through the park when he sees a girl sitting on a bench, a pile of books around her. He does a sort of doubletake when he stops in front of her but, yeah, there's really no mistaking Faith.

"Never would've pegged you for a bookworm," he comments.

Faith glances up from the book she's reading and grins at him, showing him the cover.

It's a book about using pressure points in martial arts.

"Not even this kind of book?"

When Faith shows him the book, Dean chuckles.

"All right," Dean admits. "That sounds more like you. Although I can't imagine you'd have anything more to learn from it," he adds.

"Different universe, different techniques. You can never know too many ways to kill somebody with your pinky," Faith says cheerfully. "How's it hanging, Ponyboy?"

Don't ask her why that nickname, Dean. You don't want to know.

Dean pulls a face at that, but he decides he's going to ignore the nickname. He is also going to ignore the part about Faith killing people. Sometimes he thinks being around Faith is how Sam must feel around him, constantly.

It doesn't really deter him that much.

"Not bad," he says. "Been working, mostly. You?"

Faith doesn't kill humans anymore...really.

But knowing -how- might still be useful.

"Thinking about getting a real paying job. Teaching martial arts or something like that." Faith shrugs. "I feel stupid just hanging around not doing much."

"What, like teaching kids or something? That should be a trip," Dean grins. Then again, he taught Sam just about everything he knows, and that mostly went all right - in retrospect, anyway.

"Yeah, I know the feeling." Dean nods. "Working at the bar's not bad at all, but I still miss hunting like crazy. Feel pretty useless without it."

"There's a bar? You work at a bar?" Faith tilts her head. "What bar?"

Because she's totally gonna go there and pester you, Dean.

Dean wouldn't exactly mind some pestering. He can always use some more eyecandy at work.

"Yeah," he says. "The Luna Bar. Sam's workin' there, too."

"Awesome. I'll have to come and annoy you there, then."

Faith grins, sweetly. "Often."

Dean grins back. "Not sure I'll mind so much, but all right."

Any business is good business, and Dean bets Faith can drink.

"You'd better have Jack behind the bar."

Oh yeah. Faith can drink.

"First drink I had when I walked into the place."

Dean pretty much figured they'd have similar tastes.

Faith grins. "Awesome."

Beat.

"So when are we gonna screw again, Dean?"

Damn. There is just nothing Dean finds hotter about Faith than her directness.

Well, almost nothing.

"Don't know," he teases. "You seem pretty invested in those books..."

Faith smirks. "The books can wait. Especially if you've got that sexy car of yours with you."
