Chicago's never been a quiet city, since it became a city at all, and today is no exception. Things are happening, people are doing things.
Steve is in the Coffee Shop. He just got out of a meeting with a loan officer and a guy with a building to lease out. They're both supernatural folks themselves, so they're a bit more appreciative of the difficulties the Wanderers have, and what Steve's trying to do with nothing. And after a couple of discussions, they've come up with a situation that pleases everyone, even if both of the other men are going to be out some money, and now he just has to get the building furnished and decorated properly, and get a sign up, and...
Well, what he's doing now is having a coffee and making a list of things that he has to get done as soon as possible. He's got a limited amount of time to get this started and integrated into the community.
In another part of town, at a different time, having coffee and picking at the remains of her lunch, Annie Cartwright is sitting in a diner. She's trying to figure out how to talk to Sam (and possibly Gene) about... well, the fact that she knows they're together (and has known pretty much since she got here), and that she doesn't mind and for neither of them to feel like there's any obligation just because she and Sam flirted a bit back home.
It's been bothering her.
Over Cicero way, Tay has been in the training room most of the day, working her leg, stretching the muscles and rebuilding them with various exercises and a lot of kicking. She's also been beating the punching bags a lot, to try and ignore the part of her brain that's telling her she needs to go see Piper and get a pick-me-up. She'll be damned if she fucking needs any outside help. She's already had to put up with enough and she can totally deal with this herself, even though there's been little dealing to be had and she's started getting nervous and paranoid again, she can feel it, and she's sort of been on the edge of a panic attack all day.
But she can deal with it herself. She doesn't need Piper to deal with it. She doesn't.
Mathias has decided that, in lieu of a proper congratulatory night on the town or something, Des should be congratulated with a TP'd office. There is TP everywhere, and some string, too, so it's not as easy as just walking through the TP, you have to actually duck and dodge. He's sitting outside on a bench across the street, eating an ice cream cone and looking smug.
Donna is in the Coffee Shop some time after Steve's left, with a stack of medical journals on auto-immune diseases. While being near the Rift is obviously exacerbating things for her kids, it seems similar to these things, and if she can find out ways to manage various auto-immune diseases, maybe she can manage their illnesses.
In Grant Park, Dusty Baker is putting up fliers that she made herself. They're titled "Wanderers Are People, Too", and discuss how Wanderers don't choose to come here, and that they're brought with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and there's no way for them to go home, and how would YOU like it if that happened to you and then people were BLAMING you for everything bad that happened? She figures this is the closest she can get to doing what Ruvin does.
It's rather sweet, actually.
Rose Tyler and Cassandra are having a mostly-silent, sometimes-audible argument over, of all things, wedding dresses, as they walk to the next shop. It would appear, however, that they've been working on some sort of system of existence that works for both of them. (They've also been discussing the possibility of having the Doctor build something that might be able to pull Cassandra's consciousness out and let it jump around again. Rose, at this point, would have very few moral qualms with that plan.)
Toph is in Grant Park, as usual. But she's just sort of sitting on the ground, looking lonely. She'll deny it right off if anyone asks, but... well, she misses Aang and Sokka and even Katara, and she hasn't really... well, she hasn't really made any friends. She never really had friends before, but after having them for a while and then losing them...
She's feeling more than a bit lonely.
In another part of town, another lonely kid sits. Maria Jackson is sitting on the steps of the library, looking sad. She hasn't seen as much of Zoe since Zoe's sister... well, it's understandable, 'cause Zoe's sad, but also her parents won't let her out to do anything, pretty much, and she's really Maria's only friend.
Also, it's Maria's birthday tomorrow, and no one knows. She was sort of hoping to be home by now, so she didn't tell anyone earlier, and now... it just feels stupid to say, "Oh, by the way, I'm turning 15 tomorrow, ta."
In the Conrad basement, Sarah Tapper is in the music room with a guitar and a notebook, trying out
her new song. It doesn't sound right, 'cause she wants it to have more than one voice, a couple harmonies, but it's enough for now. Very autobiographical (to the point of mentioning her own name), but it's been... rather theraputic to write.
Mat is in the courtyard of the Gauche, slowly practising the tai chi moves Buffy taught him. When he moves quickly, they'll be like any other martial art, and it's actually pretty relaxing to do them slowly. Next up, he gets to learn how to wield something sharp.
It's actually pretty satisfying, learning this stuff. It makes him feel... less useless.
In the mouth of some alley, Daine is comforting a litter of tiny kittens whose Mama was run over by a car - Daine had witnessed it, and not had time to actually heal the poor thing, but she'd told Daine about her litter, and now Daine's trying to figure out what to do with these little things. But first, she has to calm and comfort them, and right now, they're mewling, wanting their Mama.
And on some sunny beach in Mexico, Becky Trapper is thinking about a certain friend of hers back home, and is strangely worried about him, out of the blue.
