It's come to Des's attention that for all that Maria's lived in his house for a year, he hasn't really bonded with her, which is weird, considering she's practically Martha's ward (in the literal sense, not the guardian angel sense) and since he and Martha are going to be married (which is still really weird to think about), he figured this needed to be fixed and stat.
Which is why he and Maria are at a nice little mall in the suburbs (one where no one died a horrific death- at least not recently), browsing and, you know, bonding... Or at least attempting to. Des hasn't really been around kids and he's definitely never had a teenage !daughter and while he'd like to think he's cooler than the average dad-type personage, he's still not the best at actually being a dad-type personage.
But he's trying! And he's adorable in the attempt!
"Gotta tell you, the last time I was at a mall, Orange Julius was a big deal," he notes. "I think I'll take your lead."
