The basement of the Conrad is pretty simple and straight-forward in its layout, but even the basement has its odd corridors and nooks and cubby-hole rooms

[OOC: Iiii'm going to handwave this to come before Des's trek with Martha, if that's okay. Des really insisted. My headvoices need to stop being difficult with timelines.]
Des has been systematically punching things ever since he heard about what happened to Ricky, which means his room isn't really fit to sit and mope in right now. Plus he's not really a mopey guy. He's a find-what's-hurting-my-friends-and-kill-it-with-fire sort of guy, but since he can't exactly do that, he'll settle for finding his friends.
He checks the unexpected hiding places first, because that's what he'd do if were her, and his luck somehow holds out when he discovers a storage closet apparently sobbing.
"Becks?" He says, pressing an ear against the door to hear better.
There's some sort of garbled response, which could be "come in", "I'm fine", or "go the fuck away and leave me alone", but she's crying too hard to really be coherent.
It's up to Des to decide what he thinks she means and act accordingly.
She's just not up to even opening the door just now.
Descant never assumes the worst when it comes to these things, so he's just going to open the door and face the consequences.
"I don't know what you said, but I'm not talking to a door," he says as soon as the door's open and he's started to step inside, praying she doesn't have access to something to throw at him if 'go the fuck away' was what she said.
There's nothing in there to throw at him, but she wouldn't anyway. Even if she had said 'go the fuck away' (which, actually, is quite likely, knowing her), she wouldn't throw anything at him.
Especially not now.
She's curled into a ball, knees hugged to her chest and face pressed against them, pressed as far into the corner as she can get. It's very very evident just how small she actually is right now.
And the mighty bear turns into a teddy bear once more as he's at her side in an instant, because, dammit, he can't believe this happened. Not to her.
She's been tortured her whole damn life. Why add to that? (Oh right, because Calisto is a fucking psychopath, and she'll be a dead one soon if he has any say over things.)
He lays a hand on her shoulder and her trembling under his fingertips just makes him angrier about the situation.
"She can't keep doing this," he mutters, his voice pained. He's not talking to her. He's just talking- filling the silence.
She needs touch. She's a tactile person, when it all comes down to it, though she hasn't given or gotten much touch not involving drugs or death in the past three years.
She leans into him a little, though, still crying, just... pleading silently for him - anyone - to make it go away. Make it better.
His arms are around her the instant she leans into him and he squeezes her tightly, reassuring her without words that he's here and that if he could make it go away, he would do it.
He doesn't know how though and that bothers him. There's nothing a detective hates more than a problem he can't solve.
"I'm sorry, Becky," he whispers in her ear. "This shouldn't have happened.... Not to you. Not to him."
He really, really hopes he doesn't meet Calisto anytime soon. It'll take everything in his power not to hurt her like she hurt Becky.
A feeling Des has had more times than he can count, so it makes him out to be a big fucking hypocrite when he says, "It's not your fault. These things happen. You can't save everyone and you'll go mad trying."
Advice he really ought to take himself.
"You helped him through it, just like you were supposed to. I'm sure you made his final moments as comfortable as possible. That's really all you could do."
He grits his teeth, wishing they weren't here in this situation- that Ricky was still alive and Becky wasn't so broken.
"Try asking a leaf to stand against the wind, Becks, and that's about like what you're asking yourself to do. You're just one angel and she's a motherfucking monster. But you are stronger than her in one way and that's that you care and people who care get really pissed off when other people hurt the things they care for, so she's gonna be in a world of hurt if she ever sees either of us again, but that can't happen unless you just accept what happened and overcome it."
What he's telling her is insane, but it makes sense to him and he thinks its comforting and that's really all that matters to him.
"We're going to make her pay. Not just you and me. Everyone."
He felt inclined to add that just in case that sends her after Calisto herself, which would be all kinds of not good. Again, hypocrite much?
"She'll just keep coming," Becky whispers, curling against him. "She'll keep coming and coming and taking the people I love until I have nothing left. And then I'll Fall, and she'll watch me do it, and if I don't die, she'll kill me."
She's... got a pretty good grasp on what is likely to happen with Calisto. It's a scary thing to have a grasp on.

Not that it would have deterred him any.

It may be possible that she blames herself in all this. Hmm.

She couldn't move. She'd tried, and she couldn't.
It's her fault. She should've done something.

Because yeah, as mortal as he is, he doesn't think Calisto can take him, and that is why he's an idiot. A not very helpful idiot.

Because, y'know... anything Brando's scared of? Is something to SERIOUSLY fear.

"We'll just see," he mutters hoarsely, because... Yeah, that's a perfectly acceptable reaction to that.
He's really, really not helping anymore, but that's because he doesn't know what to say so he just acts all macho and hopes it works.
It doesn't.

She has enough conscience issues as it is.
