I'm still breaking and I can't take it

Ricky is very frustrated and standing outside of the lift in the Conrad's basement. It's not working. Ricky is being watched by one very thoughtful, and for once sober, Jack. He was planning on going for a late-night walk, but this is much more interesting.

Ricky starts, not having heard Jack come up behind him. He turns to face the man, looking tired. "I'm just--" he starts, trying to figure out a witty way to explain why he was staring down the doors. No. There's really nothing witty to say here. "I'm figuring it's just a slight power outage. Will be back soon enough, right?" That's hopeful thinking.

Jack shrugs. "Maybe. Or someone will come along to fix it, eventually. Either way, staring at it won't fix it."

Somewhat more helpfully, he adds, "I'm sure it's nothing much to worry about."

"Don't have much else to do," Ricky admits, leaning against a wall. Everything Jack was saying is logical. But Ricky is really, really bored. And he can't find much else do to within the Conrad's basement tonight and wants out. "I mean, I can stare at it. Or I can stare at something else. Or I can sit and stare at something." He pauses, realizing he hasn't met the man proper. "Ricky," he says. "Ricky Smith." He holds out his hand.
