In two parts of the general area of Chicago, two different people are doing two different things.
Doc Brown is in the Rift room of the Conrad, sitting on the couch and eying the television like he wants to take it apart. He's kind of itching to do something with his hands -- fixing Ricky's lock (however temporarily) reminded him he hasn't been doing much actual inventing lately. There's working on the time machine, yes, but that's slow going and requires more parts and tools than he's currently got. He wants to build something, fix something, do something. He's not sure why that urge led him to the Rift room, but maybe the Rift will be nice and spit out something for him to fiddle with.
Victor Van Dort, on the other hand, is in one of the Gauche's sunrooms, sketchbook at the ready. He's found a spider and its web in the corner, and is busily scratching away with his pen, sketching them out. He looks quite content at the moment -- drawing's always something that made him happy. Especially drawing insects and arachnids. He finishes his current drawing and starts on another, this time working on a more detailed sketch of the spider's leg.
