Just hold me close to you

Maka pounds up the stairs of the Gauche to the roof and slams the door open, sending pigeons chirruping and cooing in spirals up to the sky. She races through the cloud of dislodged feathers and slapping wings to leap onto the roof's ledge. For a moment she totters, then steadies, takes a deep breath and screams at the top of her lungs.

As food helps you not die, Marshall has just recently invaded the kitchen for a sandwich and is now returning to his office in the CCTV room to fiddle with his boxes of shiny things and watch the monitors, but he gets derailed by a thing! ...And an Abby.

He makes a noise that sounds like a greeting filtered through a mouthful of pastrami on rye and then swallows and repeats said greeting, "Hey, Abby, how's it goin... And, uh... What's that you got there?"

Marshall is attracted to shiny things. It's a gift.

"Flinkman," Abby says, grinning at him. She hasn't seen Marshall in a while. "Thought you might be interested. I dunno what it is. Found it in the park."

She holds it up, watching the colors shift, and feels the pull to put it on again. "Grant Park," she says. It sounds a little vague. Abby shakes her head and drops the hand holding the necklace to her side.

"Coffee shop's back, by the way." Yes, she has a job again. No simple explosion will keep Abby Maitland from feeling completely useless.

Marshall bounces a little on the balls of his feet. Between his Christmas present and all the stuff that Abby's been bringing him, he will have all the best toys. Fear, Chicago. Feeear.

He stares at the necklace, scratching his chin. "Well... It's kinda... Well, actually it looks a little Harry Potter to me, actually. Which reminds me.. I really need to hit a library or something, because... All seven books are out in this time period? Flink is so there. I mean, we'd only gotten the first... Two, I think? I don't even remember.. Sometimes... Being a lab rat means that your contact with the outside world is a little.. Ehhh... Oh hey! You got your job back! Hooray! You know, I've been meaning to stop by there, you know, just to see it... Never actually been to the infamous coffee shop. Kinda seems like living in New York and never actually seeing the, uh... Uh... Statue of Liberty."

It should be noted that he's never taken his eyes off the necklace the whole time he was rambling. It's very pretty. And very weird.

"Does look it a bit, doesn't it?" She rubs her hand over the stone of the necklace and jerks in surprise as a shiver, almost like an electric shock, rolls up her arm. "Ow."

Abby looks from Marshall to the necklace, trying to smother a grin. "We should go. To the coffee shop I mean. I've got an employee discount."

The last bit is delivered as though she's offering an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii.

At Abby's ow, Marshall finally tears his eyes away from it, knitting his brows in confusion. "You think it might be dangerous? I mean... It's a little bit out of my area of expertise, so I don't think any, uh... Probing is going to, uh... Garner many results, but, um... There's gotta be some sorcerer-types around, y'know? Granted, I guess you can't really go around advertising that sort of thing on the journals and you'll get, like... Voldemort or something. Maybe a very specific lock. No Dark Wizards." He gesticulates wildly like NO DARK WIZARDS is a billboard or something and then chuckles nervously, and drops his hands back to his side.

At the mention of the coffee shop, his smile brightens. "Oh hey! We should! I'm sure the, uh... The CCTV won't go completely insane if I leave for, y'know, a little while and I could really go for some coffee. And, uh... Well, hopefully, it won't explode."

Yeah, like Marshall really needs coffee. Ever.

Abby laughs. "The CCTV or the coffee shop? As it is, could be either one."

She dangles the necklace in front of him. "Dunno if it's dangerous, but it..." Abby sticks her tongue out, like she's tasted something nasty. "Okay, prob'ly dangerous. It wants me to put it on. Or makes me want to or something. Figured it should go somewhere it won't hurt anyone, but I couldn't think of who else to give it to. Don't know any sorcerer types."

Marshall just gives a sheepish shrug in response to that question and shoves his hands in his pockets. The sad thing is that it's true, but just because Marshall is staring at the CCTV doesn't mean it won't explode and the coffee shop is going to explode again one day if you take into account some strange, unnatural law of Chicago, so it's either avoid it or hope you're really lucky, and, really? They must have amazing coffee there for it to keep being rebuilt.

He makes a worried face. "Thaaat's very, uh... Tales From The Darkside, which, incidentally, is nowhere near as good as The Twilight Zone, even if they both freaked me out in equal amounts..." Marshall shakes his head before he gets off on another tangent. "Yeah... Yeah, I don't know any either. I still, uh, say the journals would probably be a good bet. I mean... If Voldemort was really in Chicago, don't you think he would have done something by now?" He arches an eyebrow. Curious Marshall is curious now! And knowing the amount of crazy people in Chicago, it seems like there ( ... )
