In the strange and miraculously large Grant Park, across the street from the Conrad Hotel, a Rift opens. It's only open for a moment, and it brings a waft of an ocean breeze through it in the short time it exist

Revan's still hanging out in Grant Park when Daine walks through the Rift. She's never been one to leave a new Wanderer without trying to explain things to them. She still remembers her own confusion when she arrived, and how nervous she was as well.
Given this last fact, Revan approaches the girl very carefully. The fact that she's apparently talking to a group of animals is mildly unnerving, but she shoves that aside for the moment. "Hello?" She says, tentatively. "You okay?"
Daine looks over at the woman and gives a tight smile. "I... Yes, I'm just a bit lost, apparently. I was travelling towards Pirate's Swoop? On the coast?"
One of the squirrels runs past Revan and hides behind Daine's legs, chittering a bit. She feels like a predator, it tells Daine. Don't let her get behind you, she'll eat you!
I'm sure she won't, Daine replies, a bit amused, but she stays wary. Animals are good judges of character, she's found.
Revan won't eat her! That would be wrong. Instead she arches an eyebrow at Daine. "Pirate's Swoop?" she repeats, slowly. "I don't think I've heard of it. This is Chicago, Illinois." She's trying to avoid simply "ambushing" Daine with the news about the Rift. It might be a bit much to handle at first. Besides, she's still trying to figure out how best to phrase the news. Words are occasionally hard to come by.
Well, better to be ambushed than to not know for too long. Daine frowns and purses her lips. "That's what the birds said. I've never heard of a city called Chicago. And a city this size..." she gestures helplessly. "I'm certain I would have at least heard of it. It's too cool to be the south of Carthak... is this the other side of the Roof of the World?"
Hey, it's the best idea she can come up with.
One of the squirrels decides to be braver than the rest, and scampers out from behind Daine's legs briefly to chitter angrily at Revan. You can't eat her! She's People, we won't let you!
"Oh for goodness' sake, she's not going to eat me," Daine says aloud in exasperation. "Now stop being rude."
The squirrel, still muttering to himself, runs back behind Daine's legs, glaring as darkly as a squirrel can from the relative safety. Clearly he is not pleased by being told off.
Revan is very confused. She doesn't know any of those places. Although her confusion stems more from figuring out how to phrase the news in a context that'll be easier for Daine to absorb. "N-no," she responds, slowly. "I'm afraid you're in a completely different world... You walked through the Rift." She wishes she could show it to Daine, but the Grant Park Rifts aren't stable. It's long gone by now.
Daine's response to the squirrel causes Revan's eyes to widen. "Eat you? No, of course I won't!" She arches an eyebrow at Daine again. "You can talk to animals?" she asks. "Interesting ability. What made them think I was going to eat you?" It's... bewildering, really.
